Purpose of the Position – Why does the Position exist and what is it designed to accomplish?
All Chemical Operator I positions exist with an expectation that the individual will work safely according to policies and procedures and that any operator will take ownership of their safety and the safety of their co-workers.
This is an entry level position responsible for performing all repetitive/routine tasks associated with daily production.
Assigned operators can work in Alcoholates, Boranes, PPD, MOX and cylinder processing.
Knowledge and Experience – What educational background, skills, training, certifications, and/or a combination of education and experience are needed to perform the Position?
Required:
- GED/HS diploma with a minimum of 12-18 months of relevant work experience in a 24/5 or 24/7 industrial, chemical or power plant manufacturing work environment.
- Troubleshooting skills to recognize and address minor problems associated with manufacturing and would seek help for resolution.
- Basic Math skills (add/subtract/multiply and divide, fraction to decimal conversions).
- Basic computer skills including Windows, Lotus Notes or equivalent mail system.
- Experience with Standard Operating Procedures/Work Orders.
- Experience following safety rules and safety procedures including, Safe Work Permit, LOTO, Line Break, Cold/Hot Work, and Confined Space Entry or equivalent relevant procedures.
- Experience with personal protective equipment; ie., face shields, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, clothing, etc.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate forklift.
- Team player
Prefer:
- One year of experience working in a chemical/power manufacturing 24/7 or 24/5 environment.
- Experience wearing more advanced PPE; including respirators
Physical Requirements:
This is a rotating shift position which requires the ability to work overtime in a seven day per week environment as required.
- Must work overtime, as required.
- Must be able to work outdoor and use stairways/ladders to perform tasks.
- Physical strength is required to operate manual process equipment.
- Must meet lifting requirements up to (50 lbs.) and pass physical and respiratory requirements.
Principal Responsibilities – Four to eight brief statements indicating what is done (Action), how it is done (Method or Means) and why (End Result). (Use additional sheet of paper if necessary.)
- Follows operating procedures, site standards and policies, etc. to ensure the safe and efficient operations at the site.
- Adjusts product in the modification, conditioning and storage tanks to complete a batch and adjust material to specifications under the watch of more experienced operators.
- Samples products in storage tanks.
- Transfers and filters product from modification, conditioning or storage tanks to the finished product storage areas.
- Makes up batches of products to be used in Production areas.
- Handles and transfers raw materials from bulk and semi-bulk storage tanks, tote bins, drums, bags, etc. to adjust and makeup products.
- Conducts routine inspections and monitors equipment in either the MOX, PPD, Alcoholates, Boranes and cylinder processing areas.
- Utilizes forklift to move packaged goods, equipment as required.
- Maintains high level of housekeeping in assigned work areas.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
