Job Description
The Ascent School was established in 1999 and provides educational services to individuals with autism ages 5-21. A small, state-approved, private program, Ascent serves a maximum of 24 students using the principles and procedures of Applied Behavior Analysis
Ascent is a 12-month program running on a typical 10-month calendar plus a six-week summer session. Teaching staff enjoy all student breaks that include over six weeks of scheduled time off per year. BCBA fieldwork and supervision are available for staff enrolled in a BCBA Certification Program. Nestled next to the Tanger Outlets in Deer Park, our program is centrally located to all major thoroughfares.

Responsibilities
· Assist the classroom teacher in directly instructing students according to their Individualized
Education Plan (IEP).
· Collect and graph skill acquisition and behavior reduction data as directed in program plans.
· Provide close supervision of and ensure the safety of all students.
· Attend and participate in all required trainings.
· Accept teaching assignments according to program needs.
· Accept and act in accordance with all school policies and procedures outlined in the Employee
Handbook.
· Accompany and instruct students to transition and vocational sites.
Qualifications
· High School/Equivalency diploma required
· A minimum of six college credits accrued within one year of hire is required
· Experience supporting students with children with autism is preferred
· Good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
· Must maintain active status of the Level I certificate once obtained*
*A Teaching Assistant NYS Level I must complete the requirements outlined by NYSED and apply for Teaching Assistant Level I certification within six months of employment and receive certification within one year. This certification requires the following: Identification and Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment, School Violence Prevention and Intervention, NYSATAS, Fingerprint, Application for TA certification and High School diploma.
