Job Title : Grammar School Teacher 4th-6th grade
Location : Ascent Classical Academy of Douglas County, Lonetree, CO
FLSA Status : Exempt
Reports to : Dean of Grammar School
Work Hours / Days : M-F, School days, and professional development days
Start Date : August 2025
- Please note all teachers will need to be able to attend training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. ACACS and Hillsdale cover travel to the conference, lodging, and food.
Essential Functions :
Prepare unit and lesson plans and teach specific curriculum in Singapore Math, Well Ordered Language, and writing through the Institute for Excellence in Writing, as well as literature, poetry, history, and science in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school yearTeach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methodsFoster professional relationships with faculty and staff,Actively seek collaborative relationships with parents and mentor students in the pursuit of their own flourishingModel moral character in line with the school's core virtues and the pursuit of Good, True, and BeautifulAssign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely mannerProctor or supervise tests on the annual testing cycle (beginning of year, middle of year, end of year)Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learningProactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensionsCollaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and othersCommunicate regularly, usually weekly, with parentsAssist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared scheduleParticipate in professional development as offered by ACAND and Hillsdale College's K12 OfficeMaintain confidentiality in student recordsMaintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learnersDemonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operationsOther duties as assignedPosition Requirements :
Bachelor's degree or passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area requiredMinimum of 36 credit hours in Early Childhood Education preferred; Colorado Teaching license not requiredStrong background in relevant content areasCommitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc.Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts educationCommitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtuesAdherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and applicable school and board policiesProficiency in English verbal and writtenProficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilitiesInterpersonal, oral, and written communication skillsStrong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal bestProven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skillsAbility to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team membersAbility to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalismCreative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challengesPatience, reliability, and a positive attitudePhysical Requirements :
