We are seeking a dedicated and self-motivated Fleet Mechanic to oversee the maintenance and repair of a fleet consisting of 20 OTR (Over-The-Road) Semi Trucks and 50 dry van trailers. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and have a strong work ethic. This role requires an individual who is capable of working independently in our shop, prioritizing tasks effectively, and collaborating with dispatch to ensure equipment is properly maintained and repaired on time. You will be the primary mechanic, managing day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring the fleet is running efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Fleet Maintenance & Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance and emergency repairs on 20 semi-trucks and 50 dry van trailers.
- Able to perform mechanical issues related to basic maintenance, brakes, suspensions, electrical lighting, and other components of the trucks and trailers.
- Maintain and repair trucks and trailers, including ensuring the overall safety and compliance of vehicles.
- Record Keeping & Documentation:
- Keep accurate and detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed, including parts used and labor hours.
- Create and manage scheduled maintenance reports for the fleet, ensuring all upcoming service needs are documented and communicated to dispatch.
- Maintain a system to track vehicle inspections, repairs, and maintenance schedules to meet industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Collaboration with Dispatch:
- Work closely with dispatch to schedule equipment for maintenance, ensuring minimal disruption to operations and ensuring that all vehicles are brought in for scheduled services.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch about the status of repairs and maintenance work, as well as any unexpected issues that may cause delays.
- Prioritization & Decision-Making:
- Prioritize work based on urgency and impact to fleet operations, balancing preventive maintenance and emergency repairs.
- Make sound decisions on whether repairs can be handled in-house or need to be outsourced.
- Ensure that repairs beyond in-house capabilities are promptly farmed out to trusted external service providers.
- Problem Solving & Positive Outcomes:
- Utilize strong problem-solving skills to address mechanical challenges and provide positive outcomes that benefit the company’s operational goals.
- Maintain a positive and proactive attitude while handling multiple repair and maintenance tasks.
- Proven experience as a fleet mechanic or diesel mechanic, preferably with experience in managing OTR truck fleets.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance, electrical lighting, and diagnostic systems used in semi-trucks and trailers. We are willing to train the right individual.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Self-starter with excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to interact with dispatch and external service providers.
- Ability to make sound decisions under pressure, balancing company needs with practical limitations.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, work in various weather conditions, and bend, stoop, or stand for long periods.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred, but not required).
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment and stay calm under pressure.
Physical demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in various environmental conditions (outdoors, in a shop setting).
- Standing, bending, and working in tight spaces for extended periods.
The anticipated hiring range for the role you are applying for is between $17.63 and $22.44 hourly. This anticipated hiring range is based on several factors, and subject to increase based on the below:
