What are the responsibilities and job description for the SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator position at Ascentria Care Alliance?
The SNAP-Ed Nutrition Educator promotes and improves individual and community health by teaching healthy eating behaviors and physical activity practices to low-income communities. Deliver appropriate health and nutrition programs to meet audience needs and prepare, instruct and evaluate day-to-day classes. Assist program manager in program planning, applied research, and maintaining relationships with community partners.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Teach limited resource audiences practical nutrition, food safety, physical activity and food budgeting using the assigned curriculum.
- Develop creative lesson plans for remote and in-person programs that include interactive cooking demonstrations and group activities as relevant.
- Adapt and deliver educational curricula to non-English speaking audiences through an Interpreter or teach in the native language.
- Promote program through social media platforms, community networking and outreach in order to recruit SNAP-Ed participants and deliver programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in agriculture, farm management, horticulture, health, nutrition, public health, or related discipline or equivalent education/experience required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of gardening, farming, teaching, community engagement, community health promotion, or community education experience required.
- Bilingual one of the SNAP-Ed languages and/or experience working through an Interpreter preferred. Languages are Spanish, Arabic, Nepali, Somali and Russian.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work morning, evening, and weekend shifts as needed.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals, organizations, and/or communities representing culturally and economically diverse and underserved populations. .
