What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manager, Programs position at ASHA?
I. Purpose
The purpose of this position is to provide essential technical and operational support to the Convention and Meetings Program team and the Convention Program Committee (CPC). This role ensures seamless communication and efficient information flow, facilitating a dynamic virtual program and a successful in-person Convention. By managing technical requirements and proactively addressing challenges, the Manager, Programs enhances the overall presenter/attendee experience and contributes to the Convention's impact.
Travel is required throughout the year.
II. Key Responsibilities
- Support the Convention Program Committee (CPC) Co-Chairs and Topic Chairs in developing the CPC, and collaborates with the Director, Programs, CPC volunteers, and vendors to enhance technology, streamline the Call for Papers, and implement process improvements
- Oversee the development of systems, session collection, information distribution, floor plan management and operations for the poster presentations and virtual program
- Manage program resources updates, ensuring proofreading of materials, timely website and community site updates, smooth app integrations, and data management
- Oversee author/presenter submissions and disclosures process and forms to ensure all information is provided to comply with Continuing Education (CE) requirements so that deadlines can be met.
- Provide customer support for presenters, authors, attendees, members, vendors, and the public regarding the annual Convention, with a focus on the educational program. Assure interactions are productive and informative across all communication channels, including Convention papers proxy box management and other engagement methods.
- Provide technical and creative support for the plenary sessions, and other special events, including but not limited to scripts, slide design elements, and printed materials.

The Manager, Programs plays a pivotal role in the Programs Team within the Convention and Meetings Cluster. The incumbent receives broad direction and objectives from the Director, Programs and has wide latitude and significant independence to establish approaches, standard operating procedures, and methodology to accomplish work.
V. Qualifications & Skills
Qualifications:
a. Knowledge typically acquired through:
- 3-5 years’ experience in association/nonprofit management and program development
- Experience in education programming, communications, and/or event management, and a solid grasp of project management principles
- BA/BS degree in related field, or equivalent training and experience
b. Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge in abstract management systems, association management software, mobile apps, Microsoft office, and other related industry software
- Demonstrated project and process management abilities, including setting and meeting deadlines and effectively multitasking to prioritize and oversee multiple actions or events simultaneously
- Proven experience in engaging with volunteers
- Clear and persuasive communicator, capable of crafting messages for diverse audiences
- Demonstrated dedication to detail and ability to work under pressure in a deadline driven environment
- Positive work ethic and excellent customer services skills; demonstrated ability to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with colleagues, members, and the public
- Demonstrates a proactive, self-starter attitude, thriving in fast-paced environments
- Demonstrated knowledge and ability to problem-solve independently and proactively, and to lead collaborative efforts to define solutions
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Experience with finding creative and innovative solutions
