OBJECTIVE:
To manage the day-to-day operations, safety, and facility of an Ashby Lumber location in accordance with company philosophy, standards, policy, and objectives. Work with the VP of Operations to set and monitor goals for each department that encourage the development and motivation of employees, increase productivity, efficiency, and margins, and maintain high levels of customer service resulting in increased sales with maximum profitability. To lead by example to ensure high standards of communication, accountability, and customer service. To accomplish the above directly or to oversee by delegating responsibility.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
GENERAL:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of an Ashby Lumber location and work with the VP of operations on important matters in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist Supervisors with employee scheduling and ensure appropriate staff for opening and closing of the store.
  • Work with VP of Operations and supervisors in developing written company policies and procedures to ensure smooth and consistent operations.
  • Enforce company policies and procedures. Provide direction to employees regarding operational and procedural issues.
  • Solve any individual or department problems as they arise.
  • Keep VP of Operations fully informed of all matters of significance and take prompt corrective action where necessary or suggest alternative courses of action.
  • Work with the VP of Sales to ensure adherence to policies and procedures, while also providing GREAT customer service and driving both individual and team sales goals.
  • The Store Manager will report directly to the VP of Operations while actively working with the VP of Sales to oversee the sales staff in-store.
  • Create a fun and positive working environment that will build morale.
BUDGETING:
  • Work with the VP of Operations to prepare an annual operating budget for expenses based on operational needs including equipment, machinery, and staff.
  • Identify areas needing improvement and work with the VP of Operations and the VP of Sales to come up with solutions.
PLANNING:
  • Work with the VP of Operations to prepare and update store action plans in order to:
    • Set and meet budget goals.
    • Continually improve productivity and efficiency.
    • Motivate and develop employees.
    • Enhance customer service.
    • Improve communication within and between departments.
    • Work with Corporate Purchasing to provide products customers need in proper quantities at the best pricing.
    • Maintain standards of merchandising and cleanliness.
    • Execute promotional and advertising strategies and activities developed by the VP of Sales and Marketing.
    • Maximize profitability, protect against loss.
  • Set and monitor goals for each department to accomplish action plans, working in conjunction with supervisors.
  • Continually develop ideas to move the company forward in all aspects. Integrate these ideas into store action plans.
  • Review action plans and goal achievement monthly with owners.
DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING:
  • Assist supervisors with hiring, employee discipline, employee complaints or concerns,
  • and termination, in accordance with company policy and employment laws.
  • Ensure development of managers through regular management meetings, individual weekly meetings, and quarterly check-ins and annual performance reviews.
  • Ensure development of staff through one-on-one feedback, staff meetings, and overseeing of annual job performance reviews.
  • Ensure that all areas of customer service meet or exceed Ashby Lumber’s standards.
  • Respond to complaints either in person or by phone, take all the appropriate actions to turn dissatisfied customers into return customers.
SAFETY:
  • Administer facility repair and maintenance in order to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Stay informed and current on all areas of Risk Management.
  • Ensure that accident and injury reports are promptly filled out whenever there is an incident with an employee or customer.
OTHER:
  • Attend meetings to determine and set company/store strategy and policy-making.
  • Provide support to all departments to resolve problems (policy, software, hardware, etc)
  • Assist inventory department in the coordination and completion of annual store inventory
  • Assist CEO and VPs with special projects
  • Learn computer functions necessary to do the above efficiently and accurately.
  • As needed, any other functions or activities to achieve the objectives of the position.

We are looking for someone with the following experience or knowledge:
  • 3-5 Years experience in a managerial role, preferably as a Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager with a demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.

  • Professional, knowledgeable, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Working knowledge of lumber, doors, windows, and other building materials is a bonus, but not necessary. 
  • Ability to interface with employees, customers, and end users effectively.
