Hours: First shift; Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm | No Supervisory Responsibilities | No Travel | Pay commensurate with experience
Full Time, day shift position in the Patient Accounting Department.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Cashier performs cashiering functions and is responsible for all monetary payments made to the hospital ensuring accurate posting of payments and contractual adjustments to the hospital’s patient and non-patient accounts receivables. The Cashier is responsible for preparing deposits and manages tracking of these deposits. Interacts with patients and staff in a professional manner, promotes teamwork, and creates an environment where a positive patient experience is a requirement.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Cash management training preferred.
Experience:
- 3 years of cashiering experience required.
- 2 years of previous hospital business office experience preferred.
- Medical Office experience preferred.
- Good organizational skills and friendly customer service skills required.
- Good mathematical skills required.
- Must be able to multi-task and balance cash drawers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains control of all monetary receipts (cash, check, credit, electronic) as well as posting of these payments into the hospital computer system.
- Prepares bank deposits for hospital funds.
- Reconciles cash received with deposits and posted amounts.
- Responds to patient queries relating to balances and billing for patient accounts receivable in a professional manner.
- Ensures accurate and timely posting of receivables payments and contractual adjustments.
- Researches unidentifiable receipts for appropriate posting.
- Coordinates with accounting department in daily and monthly balancing of receipts to the general ledger.
- Resolves credit balances by verifying adjustments and/or overpayments and requests refunds when necessary.
- Notifies the Patient Financial Services Director of any unusual or significant issues that may affect daily balancing of accounts receivable or cash flow.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Supports the hospital and promotes a positive attitude.
- Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
- Wears identification while on duty.
- Adheres to the HIPAA and privacy policies and procedures. Reports any violation or appearance of violation of the policies and procedures and/or laws and regulations addressed in the Compliance Plan and the hospital Code of Conduct to the Compliance Officer, a member of Senior Leadership, or to the Department Director.
Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
