Hours: 1st shift, days will vary | No Supervisory Responsibilities | No Travel | Pay commensurate with experience
PRN, day shift position in the ED.
JOB SUMMARY:
The North Carolina certified Paramedic functions and plays an integral role as a part of the clinical patient care team in the Emergency Department (ED) under the direction/supervision of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director or Medical Oversight (e.g., ED physician or Licensed Independent Practitioner, LIP) delivering the highest quality of compassionate patient care. The Paramedic operates within the defined scope of practice as defined by the Medical Director and North Carolina Office of EMS (NCOEMS) safely providing direct and indirect patient care (adhering to National Patient Safety Goals and CMS guidelines), observation, specified treatment and procedures while maintaining personal safety as well as effectively collecting and communicating pertinent data, physical, clinical and psychosocial findings within the patient care team including, but not limited to, nursing and LIPs. Performs all work with accordance to the mission, visions, and values of Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH).
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of 1 year recent experience as North Carolina certified EMT-Paramedic.
License/Certifications:
- Current North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic certification.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification.
- ACLS certification.
- PALS certification.
- International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or trauma equivalent certification preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Direct and indirect patient care under direction of ED provider or RN implementing physician protocols within their scope of practice. In addition to general patient care, responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
1. Responding to ‘Code Blue’ performing CPR and implementing treatment modalities.
2. Administering oral and parenteral medications/injections according to the approved medication list for NC Paramedics.
3. Application of cardiac and non-invasive monitoring devices such as NIBP, SpO2 and EtCO2.
4. Collection, monitor and recording of complete vital signs including orthostatic VS.
5. Assist with application of physical restraints with patient care team.
6. Application of spinal, cervical and manual immobilization.
7. Establish peripheral intravenous (IV) catheters and blood draw for analysis.
8. Access of intraosseous site.
9. Placement of nasogastric or orogastric tube and auscultate confirmation.
10.Perform capillary blood glucose monitoring.
11.Perform 12-lead EKG.
12.Application of wound dressings.
13.Set up laceration repair kits.
14.Airway suction.
15.Collection and recording of body fluid specimens.
16.Accurate charting of ongoing patient care and reporting variances.
17.Application of splints.
18.Routine cleaning and stocking of exam rooms and unit.
19.Answering phones and call lights in efficient manner.
20.Initiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.
21.Monitors patients’ physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum.
22.Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on unit needs.
Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
