Hours: 1st shift; days will vary | No Supervisory Responsibilities | No Travel | Pay commensurate with experience
PRN, day shift in Imaging.
JOB SUMMARY:
Assesses the nursing needs and initiates appropriate interventions for patients in the Radiology department according to the nursing and radiology department’s philosophies, goals, policies, and procedures.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Experience:
- Previous Imaging or Outpatient Nursing experience preferred.
- Experience with administering stress tests preferred.
License/Certifications:
- Current RN license to practice in NC.
- Current CPR within 1 month of hire.
- ACLS certification within orientation period.
- PALS certification within orientation period.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides patient education for all cardiovascular stress test patients.
- Provides patient education for stereotactic breast biopsy patients.
- Provides patient education and pre-operative teaching for special procedures in the Imaging Department and Same Day Center.
- Administers cardiac stress tests, monitors patient’s vital signs and status before, during, and after procedure and administers pharmacological drugs during study as directed by physician.
- Assists radiologist during special procedures (thoracentesis, paracentesis, joint injections, fine needle aspirations, biopsies, etc.). Sets equipment up for these procedures.
- Follows up with a phone call to patients who have had a special procedure.
- Schedules patients for cardiac stress testing and Imaging interventional procedures. Obtains required information and/or verifications, current medication list, history and physical, EKG, allergies and other pertinent patient information.
- Obtains IV access as needed for imaging studies and assesses IV site for infiltrations. Provides patient education on care of the infiltration site.
- Reports infiltrations and clinical occurrences on the QMS website.
- Assesses and monitors patients for signs and symptoms of IV contrast reaction.
- Monitors and evaluates Imaging Staff for IV competency annually and as needed.
- Participates in monthly Imaging staff meetings, as directed by Imaging Director or as needed. Provides in-services as directed/needed.
- Checks crash cart monthly for expired supplies and maintains daily log.
- Performs daily quality control on defibrillator and maintains log.
- Educates physician office staff on policy and procedure for needed services of Imaging Department.
- Performs quality control on special procedure patient records, maintains patient log and submits monthly to Imaging Manager.
- Assists patients for PICC line indications and criteria when ordered by physicians.
- Assists imaging staff with patient care during Imaging studies as needed.
- Performs PICC line placement and/or assists other qualified staff in placement.
- Coordinates hospital imaging services for patients throughout the facility and with outside providers.
- Actively looks for other duties to perform when patient volumes are down.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu shot, etc.).
