What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Support Services position at Asheboro City Schools?
The individual in this position is responsible for the coordination and supervision of transportation, safety, pupil assignment plans, student registration/enrollment, and serves as the district Title IX Coordinator, McKinney-Vento Liaison, and Athletic Director. The Director of Support Services assesses needs, establishes objectives and priorities aligned with district vision, mission and strategic plan and works collaboratively with district and school administrators to resolve discipline concerns and create a positive, disciplined learning environment. Provides overall supervision for the transportation department, school nurses, school social workers, mental wellness facilitators and other support staff. Serves as district lead for board policy development, maintenance, and updates. Position reports to the Chief Human Resources and Support Services Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of five years successful administration experience.
- Minimum education – Master’s degree in school administration, business, operations, or related field.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and
abilities may also be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must hold a valid license issued by the NC Department of Public Instruction preferably in school administration or a student support area such as counseling or social work. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Transportation
- Supervise and coordinate transportation services (buses, drivers and activity buses), including field trip
requests.
- Works collaboratively with the Directors of Facilities and Maintenance, Chief Human Resources and Support Services Officer, and Superintendent to monitor and evaluate conditions during weather events to determine school delays and/or closures. Facilitates communication, in collaboration with the Director of Communications, to families regarding weather decisions.
Safety
- Responsible for school safety including, but not limited to, school safety planning, risk and threat assessments, and crisis intervention training.
- Responds to discipline concerns; coordinates with community agencies to address the problems and needs of schools and their students.
- Serves as district Hearing Officer for discipline.
- District contact for School Resource Officers.
- Assists with the district's compliance with federal requirements related to safety in the workplace and
environmental issues.
Athletics
- Serves as district Athletic Director and works with school-level Athletic Directors to ensure all teams/programs abide by the rules and regulations of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) and North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).
- Attend high school athletic booster club meetings.
- Actively engage in athletic programs and events.
Student Enrollment
- Supervise social work staff and manage school assignments, attendance reporting, student enrollment, tuition, support for families in transition, and services for students in special settings.
- Provides support to the student transfer request process and serves on the district transfer committee.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Develops and maintains school calendar; annually establishes school calendar committee and submits
school calendar recommendation to superintendent.
Provide supervision and oversight to school nurses, including school assignments and monitoring of
immunization records for compliance.
Overall responsibility for district health and wellness initiatives/activities for students and staff. Collaborate
with K-12 school administrators regarding Physical Education and Health programs.
Coordinate Drivers Education program, including contract, billing, and program implementation.
Maintain volunteer database and clear volunteers to serve in schools, including volunteer background
screenings.
Serve as district Title IX coordinator.
Serves as district McKinney Vento Liaison.
Serves as the district lead for board policy development, maintenance and updates. Attends Board of Education meetings and serves on the Board’s policy committee.
Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
