Summary:
Under general direction of a principal, the CTE Technology Education Teacher provides
leadership in an educational environment that encourages and nurtures learning for all students.
Provides supervision to students in a variety of school related settings, monitors and evaluates
student outcomes, develops, selects or modifies lessons plans to ensure all student needs are met,
and maintains appropriate records and follows all policies and procedures of NCDPI and DPS.
Provides quality standards-based instruction in the area of Technology Education, assesses and
encourages student progress, and manages an effective learning environment to maximize
student achievement.
Eligibility:
Must have or be eligible to hold a Technology Engineering & Design teaching license (820). To
be eligible for the Technology Engineering & Design teaching license applicant must have a
related four-year degree (i.e. Architecture, Engineering, Science, Graphic Design, Industrial
Arts, etc.) that integrates STEM and 2 years within the past 5 years of related work experience.
Applicant must also pass the Technology Education (5051) praxis exam, complete any additional
educational coursework and participate in the NCDPI New Teacher Institute under the restricted
licensure within 3 years of hire date.
Job Responsibilities
• Demonstrates and teaches Technology Engineering & Design in a classroom setting using
hands-on activities, career experiences and standards-aligned instruction.
• Designs and executes engineering experiments to create workable solutions.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student growth and progress in Technology Engineering &
Design activities and modifies instructional methods to fit student's individual needs.
• Continues to participate in professional development to stay knowledgeable of current
developments in the Technology Engineering & Design field. This includes, but is not limited to,
attending seminars, workshops, and/or participating in professional learning communities (PLC).
• Prepares instructional materials aligned with curriculum standards, maintains equipment,
supplies, and other resources and maintains inventory records in accordance with district policies
and procedures.
• Coordinate CTE Student Organization activities for local, regional, state and/or national
competition
• Attend District PLC meetings as scheduled
• Works with employers and community groups to promote and advance technical skills.
• Creates an instructional environment that is conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and
emotional development of students.
• Communicates standards, achievements, and areas for improvement to students and parents.
• Meets with students and parents.
• Maintains complete and accurate student academic, attendance, and disciplinary records.
• Monitors and assesses students' academic progress.
• Collaborates with school administrators, other teachers, para-educators, parents, and
community members in the education of students.
• Instructs and demonstrates proper safety practices, procedures and standards.
• Demonstrates techniques to students as a group and one-on-one, helping them to complete
lessons, assignments, projects, activities and evaluations.
• Provides students with clear expectations, continual feedback, and logical consequences.
• Provides students with opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge base.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
• Understands and administers the curriculum guides of the District as based on state standards
• Develops lesson plans and instructional materials based on the state curriculum guides,
standards, and expectations; includes emergency plans in the case of absence and/or illness
• Establishes and communicates well-defined objectives for each lesson, including relevant
projects and activities
• Translates lesson plans into learning experiences that reflect research-based instructional
strategies, including a variety of instructional strategies such as inquiries, group discussion,
lecture, discovery, etc. and addresses the individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels
of the students
• Communicates and plans with other members of the staff in the delivery of meaningful
instruction for shared students who participate in other programs such as special education
programs, ML, and etc.
• Attends staff meetings and district in-service programs; serves on curriculum and other school
committees as requested and able
• Is responsible for discharging instructional and non-instructional school-related activities in a
thorough and timely manner
• Acts as a supportive and contributing member of the professional staff by participating in group
decision making, and contributes to the development of a positive, cooperative educational
environment
• Participates in professional development activities to enhance professional skills and maintain
North Carolina certification
• Evaluates, provides, and maintains accurate reports and records of individual student progress
on a regular basis; this includes accurate attendance records, grade reports, and special program
requirements
• Identifies and refers unusual student behavior to the appropriate specialists
• Reports any student injury or illness or injury to self on school grounds or at school events to
the site nurse and principal
• Enforces and follows the school and district approved discipline plan
• Is responsible for the supervision of students at all times on school grounds or at school events
• Advises administration in accordance with established policies and completes all required
forms accurately and in a timely manner.
• Accounts and maintains inventory for classroom, school and district property as required
• Advises CTE Director and school administration of needed repairs, replacements and/or unsafe
conditions as soon as they occur
