We are a small business with a focus on crafting experiences that connect our guests more deeply to themselves, each other, and Asheville!
Position Overview:
We are looking for yoga instructors to join our team to teach private yoga classes, goat yoga classes on local farms, and guide yoga hiking adventures. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in yoga, experience guiding outdoors, excellent teaching skills, a love of nature, and the ability to create a welcoming environment that ensures the safety and well-being of students of all levels.
Additional hours supporting the admin team may also be available if you're looking for more than weekend work (but not required). The yoga instructor position is an opportunity to be a part of our core group of teachers with a voice in future program development plus the incredible community of 20 facilitators that make up the Asheville Wellness Tours team.
Compensation:
- Seasonal, part-time position (March - October) with potential for winter work as well
- Base rate of $15-$17/hour plus gratuities
- Guides with WFA certification start at higher rate
Primary Role:
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to connect with guests. Show empathy, patience, and respect for guests’ diverse backgrounds, abilities, and limitations. Offer modifications for poses that make your class accessible for any experience level.
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of the group. You must familiarize guests with safety procedures and guidelines, provide information on potential risks or hazards, and take necessary precautions to ensure a safe experience.
- Create an enjoyable experience for participants by being enthusiastic, approachable, and entertaining. Use storytelling techniques, humor, and your own personal flair to captivate guests.
Specific to Yoga Hikes:
- Keep your group within sight and sound of you throughout the entire experience, the group should never separate or be beyond your supervision at any time for safety reasons.
- Be comfortable turning away guests who are not prepared to hike or practice yoga in the current weather conditions.
- Be prepared for every tour and all weather conditions so you can safely care for the group (this means you should always have sufficient layers, adequate rain gear, appropriate footwear, full water bottle, charged phone etc.)
- Willing to learn about the trail, Conserving Carolina, the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding area, plants and animals, local history and more.
- Be comfortable leading one-hour classes in variable weather conditions with varied levels of experience in your group.
Qualifications:
- Hold at least a 200-hour RYT Certification and provide documentation.
- Have or obtain a current CPR/First Aid Certification and provide documentation.
- Weekend availability through October
- Experience guiding hikes is a preferred, but we will train the right candidate.
- WFA certification is a plus.
Environmental and Working Conditions:
You must be comfortable managing a group in any weather conditions on a yoga hike, you will be expected to evaluate the environment and get everyone off the mountain carefully if there are dangerous weather conditions.
