Position: Center Director
Primary Purpose
We are looking for a passionate and dynamic Center Director to lead our facility and create a positive, engaging environment for both staff and children. As the Center Director, you will be responsible for training and guiding our team, ensuring the curriculum is stimulating, and activities are age-appropriate for children ranging from infants to school age. Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education with a concentration in Child Development or Early Childhood (Preferred)
- Must be eligible for certification as a Director of a child care center with the Missouri Department of Social Services for facilities with a capacity of at least 81 children (Required)
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Comprehensive understanding of child care center operations
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively coordinate and manage center functions
- Skilled in policy implementation and compliance
- In-depth knowledge of Missouri child care guidelines and licensing requirements
- Proven success in designing and implementing developmentally appropriate programs
- Strong appreciation and respect for diversity among children, parents, and staff
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets
Experience:
- At least three years of experience as a classroom teacher working with young children
- A minimum of one to three years of successful experience managing child care facilities
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management:
- Ensure high-quality child care standards are consistently met, based on developmentally appropriate practices
Personnel Management:
- Supervise all center staff, including substitutes, temporary, and volunteer personnel
- Oversee the hiring process and provide thorough orientation for new staff members
- Conduct accurate and constructive quarterly performance evaluations for all child care staff
Management of Fiscal, Administrative, and Facility Functions:
- Develop and manage the center’s budget, ensuring adherence to financial controls
- Maintain cost-effective practices and prudent financial management
- Oversee the daily operations of the center and effectively manage staff
- Develop and implement operational policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with Missouri Department of Social Services (DSS), Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations, including annual inspections and licensing requirements
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date files, meeting all DSS, DHSS, and DESE documentation requirements
- Serve as the point of contact for grants and administrative partnerships
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with parents, offering support, education, and training opportunities
- Provide accurate and timely information about the center to stakeholders and prospective families
- Actively pursue and maintain membership in the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in early childhood education and administrative functions
- Oversee the training and development of all child care staff
School or Community Relations:
- Communicate the center’s mission to staff and the community, encouraging collaboration and support
- Use effective communication techniques to foster parent and community involvement
- Represent the center professionally and courteously at all times
- Cultivate a positive and caring climate for students, staff, and families
- Handle all communications with sensitivity and confidentiality
