POSITION SUMMARY
The Alumni Peer Recovery Specialist educates current patients about Alumni Peer Services offered through Ashley, enrolls patients that express interest, and then facilitates individual peer sessions with these individuals. These services include but are not limited to: individual peer recovery coaching sessions, the development of personalized recovery plans, facilitation of peer support groups, and guidance with recovery monitoring devices. This position also maintains active participation in regional Ashley alumni events, chapter meetings, and community engagement opportunities. This position requires regional travel to such events. This position also assists the Alumni Coordinator with maintaining contact with alumni through documented phone calls that occur on a scheduled cadence.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborates with Alumni coordinator to schedule and facilitate meeting with current patients to present the opportunity to engage Ashley Alumni Peer Services.
- Offers patients the opportunity to enroll in Ashley Alumni Peer Services through a signed document.
- Tracks and maintains a database of signed enrollments.
- Appropriately documents all interactions with current patients in the in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Schedules initial individual coaching session with each enrolled patient to occur within 10 days of scheduled discharge (virtual or in-person).
- Develops a schedule of individual engagements with each alumni participant and adhere to all scheduled sessions (virtual or in-person).
- Collaborates with alumni participants to develop personalized recovery plans that include identified goals, recovery capital, wellness plans, etc.
- Collaborate with Assistant Director of Community Support Services to facilitate, co-facilitate, or attend alumni/family support groups.
- Helps facilitate and attend alumni chapter meetings.
- Introduce and support the concept of sober monitoring platforms to Alumni Peer Services participants. Assists with ordering, setting up, and using these devices when necessary.
- Serve as a recipient of sober monitoring data for alumni who have opted to use monitoring devices.
- Appropriately documents all individual and group engagements with alumni including attendance for alumni support groups.
- Assists the Alumni Coordinator in completing and documenting routine support calls for alumni according to the scheduled call cadence.
- Collects and documents routine data points and quality of life metrics for alumni and communicates trends to Assistant Director of Community Support Services.
- Collaborates and communicates with the Peer Specialist team on campus regarding the progress of alumni participating in specific aftercare treatment options.
- Cultivates relationships with local community organizations and treatment partners by attending community events and collaborating with Clinical Outreach staff.
- Tracks the engagement of each enrolled alumnus over time. Communicate engagement data and trends to Assistant Director of Community Support Services in a timely fashion.
- Completes continuing education as required to acquire and maintain certification as Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (MD).

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- High School diploma or equivalent required, bachelor’s degree preferred.
- One year of experience in a SUD/behavioral health treatment program required.
- Extensive knowledge of recovery tools (twelve step program, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, Recovery Dharma, etc.)
- Must have or be in the process of obtaining Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification.
- CCAR Recovery Coach Academy training required.
- Ability to drive to both Ashley’s main campus and regional events required.
- Ability to work non-traditional hours when necessary for events or specific alumni engagements (weekends, evenings, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to speak clearly; basic written skills; basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to document engagements in a clear and accurate fashion.
- Ability to collect and analyze data regarding participant progress and quality of life metrics.
- Proficient in navigating Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Proficient in scheduling, facilitating, and attending virtual meetings.
- Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate virtual meeting etiquette.
- Driver’s license, CPR/AED certification, NARCAN training all required.
