What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Laboratory Scientist position at Ashtabula Regional Medical Center?
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for laboratory specimen processing, test performance and test result reporting in the clinical departments of the laboratory. The position is responsible for performing procedures relative to quality control, quality assurance and preventive maintenance according to laboratory protocols. Strives to achieve the highest level of customer satisfaction through activities and interaction with customers.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Associates Degree. Successful completion of a two-year post high school program in Medical Laboratory Scientist.
Meets federal guidelines (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments/CLIA) for performing high complexity testing.
Knowledge and experience working with Laboratory Information systems preferred.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations as it applies to the clinical laboratory.
Knowledge of patient age specific criteria for laboratory testing.
Required Length and Type of Experience
One (1) year experience working in a clinical laboratory. Experience working with automated/semi-automated instrumentation and manual procedures
Required Licensure or Certification
MLT (ASCP) preferred or proof of qualification to sit for examination within 6 months.
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Possible exposure to bloodborne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment.
