Position Summary:

The Construction Estimator is responsible for determining cost estimates for homes from development through construction phases, including standard upgrade options.

Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

• Estimate cost of construction for new products, resulting in accurate take-offs, via compiling material and labor unit price takeoffs, and performing other estimates.
• Estimate cost of structural and design related options.
• Create and revise as needed the description of materials and Addendum A’s.
• Coordinate w/engineers to incorporate value engineering concepts into the design and construction of the homes.
• Create and revise, as needed, redline worksheets for new projects/product.
• Enter material takeoffs and budgets into the system as needed.
• Maintain folder structure used for storage of all estimating information.
• Review and correct takeoffs required by Problem Area Reports (PAR), field contact, frame walks, and variance purchase orders as they relate to bids and estimates.
• Utilize DB standards and processes as it relates to takeoffs, job costing, and layers
• Confirm accuracy on turnkey bids by performing unit pricing takeoffs and comparisons, per responsible cost types as required by a division.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Purchasing, Construction, Production/Operations Management, Engineering or related field; or equivalent work experience.
• At least 3 years of experience as an estimator in the residential construction industry preferred.
• At least 2 years of direct field experience in home-building.
• Experience within residential construction working with construction cost, building codes, materials, products, methods and procedures.
• Experience reading blueprints, construction drawings and addendums.
• Experience with MS Office products (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point).

Skills and Knowledge:

• Ability to multi-task and prioritize several tasks without compromising quality of work or mission deadlines.
• Ability to review, analyze and interpret information as well as trouble-shoot to solve problems.
• Knowledge of business English and ability to communicate patiently and professionally with both internal and external customers both orally and in writing.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands:

• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluently in English. Must be able to perform calculations
• Employees in the position are required to be able to hear and have vision sufficient to utilize all office equipment.
• Use of hands and fingers is required to utilize standard office equipment.
• Requires occasional lifting up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions:

• Work is generally performed in a typical office environment using standard office equipment. Work is typically sedentary in nature, but some walking and standing maybe required
