Maintenance Manager Job Summary
Directs the activities of the Maintenance Department for a utility scale solar thermal power plant with the primary goal of providing safe, timely, effective, and economical maintenance services throughout the facilities.
As a Maintenance Manager you will perform the following activities
- Responsible for deploying safety policies, procedures, work processes and practices, to assure a safe work environment. Assures the consistent application of, and compliance with, company policies, administrative, maintenance, environmental and safety procedures, related accepted practices, and standing orders.
- Monitors, evaluates, and assures the accuracy of the work scheduled and performed by maintenance staff.
- Prepares monthly maintenance department KPI reports for Corporate and Owner presentation using SAP/PowerPoint/Excel.
- Regularly reviews work order and project backlog taking appropriate action to ensure accuracy and manage orders and projects to completion.
- Establish priorities for the execution of all maintenance work in accordance with plant production and operational requirements.
- Develops department budget and monitors and reports budget performance.
- Prepares and submits weekly/monthly maintenance activity reports that are accurate and complete.
- Responsible for long-term equipment overhaul plans, budgets and quality execution. Establish cradle to grave strategy for critical equipment types and work towards improvements to extend equipment life.
- Ensures all company safety regulations, policies and programs are understood and followed.
- Promotes and enforces professional conduct, ethical behavior, and fair treatment of all staff members, and good housekeeping throughout the plant.
- Plans and coordinates all department training.
- Controls the usage of materials and supplies for maintenance activities and assigned personnel.
- Ensures support and supervision of contract personnel in the performance of maintenance work.
- Understands and operates facility to maintain all compliance requirements. Notifies Supervisor/Manager if non-compliance occurs.
- Reviews and authorizes all requests for additional Maintenance Stores items.
- Approves shift and coverage schedules of assigned personnel.
- Conducts employee annual performance evaluations and face-to-face reviews.
- Completes assigned training requirements.
- Performs other duties as required.
Maintenance Manager Essential Functions of the Job
The ability to speak, read and write in English. Ability to perform heavy physical work, occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force with assistance, 50 pounds of force on a frequent basis, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as grasping, lifting, reaching, crouching, standing, walking, running, climbing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, sitting, and repetitive tasks. The ability to discern assorted colors.
Maintenance Manager Working Conditions
Works in a remote power plant environment. Potential exposure to hot, cold, sudden change of temperature, dry, wet, dusty, dirty, quiet, noisy, and working alone or with others. Potential hazards include CTS, minor cuts, falls, eyesight and hearing impairment. Safety critical position.
Requirements
Maintenance Manager Prerequisites
Minimum of 8 years of experience in a related position or bachelor’s degree in an Engineering, Business, or related discipline from an accredited college or university; and 6 years of equivalent experience in a related position preferably in a steam generating power plant. Proven leadership abilities including effective verbal and written communication skills.
Maintenance Manager Requirements

- Excellent organizational skills.
- A good working knowledge of power plant equipment, instrumentation and controls, including all aspects of maintenance.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Ability to use logical and divergent reasoning to solve problems.
- Ability to read, interpret and retrieve information from engineering drawings and technical manuals including but not limited to PFA’s, P&ID’s, equipment data sheets, etc.
- Ability to work safely and effectively with others.
- Ability to train Maintenance personnel.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel proficient) and SAP or related CMMS.
