WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s degree or a combination of education and relevant work experience.
- A minimum of 4-5 years' experience writing, editing, delivering in-depth content, project management or related communications experience required.
- Track record of running successful development communication and social media campaigns, increasing subscribers, engagement, and more or larger donations.

ABOUT THE ROLE
Housed in the Communications Team yet reporting to both the Vice President (VP), Development and the Communications Director, the Development Communications Senior Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing the Development Department communications program, strategy and materials to donors (individual, corporate, foundation, government agency and others), Board and Pro Bono Advisory Council (PBAC) members, VIPs, and key volunteers who are instrumental in providing and/or influencing fundraising revenue via the written word (donor web pages, social media, brochures, decks, etc.).
The Development Communications Senior Specialist is the Communication Department account manager for the internal client, the Development Department. The ideal candidate will possess a hybrid experience of development communications, social media management, brand management, public relations and marketing to execute all program and related communications campaigns and efforts to ensure long-term sustainability from donors. He/She/They will work within the Communications Department to inform and update the Communications team about the needs, differences, and nuances in donor and prospect focused communications methods and materials and create the necessary strategies, programs, tools and materials for use by the Development Department. The Senior Specialist manages, tracks progress and analyzes trends of development communications campaigns and efforts and works with the VP, Development to identify and develop new strategies to enhance effective communications with donors and prospects. The Senior Specialist assists with special projects, events, and other assignments as directed by the VP, Development and Communications Director.
Your day-to-day responsibilities
70% Development Communications
- Provides communications program management and support to the Development Department. Develops/creates, executes, manages, monitors and analyzes development communications programs, campaigns, efforts, digital and printed materials, social media, donation web pages, newsletters, annual/impact reports, program updates and demographic information, e-blasts, etc.
- Manages Development Communications calendar and meeting agendas ensuring for timely preparation and execution.
- Develops, executes, monitors and analyzes overarching development communication and social media strategies to individual, foundation, corporate, government agency donors and prospects, Board members, PBAC, VIPs and key volunteers who provide or influence fundraising revenue with VP, Development.
- Ensures that AJSOCAL’s brand is accurately represented in development department donor and prospect focused multi-channel marketing and communication (e.g. website, printed and digital materials, social media, etc.).
- Designs, creates/revises, and publishes/disseminates development communication pieces such Justice Giving Circle (JGC) and other brochures, Planned Giving Materials, all Campaigns, Gala Sponsorship Deck and supporting materials, holiday and branded note cards, and other communication tools as needed/directed.
- Leads efforts to sharpen social media presence as a way to engage supporters, build momentum, and share success stories.
- Works with Development and Communication teams to ensure that Development Donation web pages, design, and content are updated regularly and functioning properly. May lead or assist with design, layout, copy and functionality of pages.
- Manages the Development Department’s communication assets, including photo library, success stories, design files, print and digital collateral.
- Writes and prepares talking points for key staff or speakers at fundraising focused/sponsored events such as Gala, Justice Giving Circle annual meeting, Summer Service event, etc.
- Provides other assets or support to Development Department team members as needed.
- Designs and lays out all materials as assigned in conjunction with other Development and Communications designers.
- Edits and creates shareable video content for use by the Development team when communicating with donors, prospects and key influencers.
15% Development & Event Support
- Supports all development events as assigned by VP, Development and working with Development Manager, Events as appropriate for events such as, but not limited to, annual gala, coordinating volunteers/staff, tabling at events, community service events, etc.
- Updates and maintains gala deck, save the date, invites, updates on sponsorships across all communication channels.
- Supports gala team on all external gala communication to sponsors and guests.
- Oversees gala design elements to maintain AJSOCAL Brand and consistency.
15 % Communications
- Creates, writes, formats and publishes integrated Development content for external audiences on print and digital properties that include (but are not limited to) brochures, flyers, email marketing, social media and website content.
- Works closely with the Comms team to determine Development recommendations on timing and delivery while also publishing (email, social media, web).
- Creates, writes and formats quarterly newsletter.
- Manages and updates development email lists using MailChimp.
- Serves as support back-up for Communications teammates in use of email marketing, social media channels and website.
- Ensures that asset management includes archives for both Development and Communications with access by both units.
- Ensures review and approval by Communications Director of materials for organizational voice, brand consistency, accuracy and strategic messaging.
- Represents the organization in an enthusiastic and professional manner internally as well as with external constituents and in the community, with a demonstrated commitment to AJSOCAL’s mission.
- Keeps team members and appropriate staff colleagues up to date on fundraising efforts.
- Performs other miscellaneous tasks and assignments under the director of the VP, Development.
- All other duties, as assigned.

Salary : $68,640 - $103,800
