Technician, Process Development (Contractor)

Asimov
Boston, MA Contractor
POSTED ON 3/10/2025 CLOSED ON 4/17/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Technician, Process Development (Contractor) position at Asimov?

Our mission at Asimov is to advance humanity's ability to design living systems, enabling biotechnologies with outsized benefit to society. We're developing a mammalian synthetic biology platform––from cells to software––to enable the design and manufacture of next-generation therapeutics.

We are seeking a Technician, Process Development (Contractor) to join our team on a 6 month contract in Boston, MA and help push the boundaries of biopharmaceutical and gene therapy process development. This is a lab-based role for an individual that will support day-to-day activities in upstream and downstream processing for biologics and viral vector programs.

The successful candidate will work closely with scientists in Asimov’s Process Development team to execute experiments covering both R&D and partner-related programs and initiatives. The role reports to the Head of Process Development and will function in a matrix environment, allowing for interaction with multiple scientists on the Process Development team. This is a unique opportunity to work at a nimble, forward-thinking synthetic biology startup and help build the future of biological engineering.

About the Role:

  • Perform laboratory support functions for the Process Development Team including bioreactor assembly, sampling/feeding, retain collection and monitoring support at the Ambr15, Ambr250, and benchtop scale (2L/10L) on a daily basis.
  • Support bioreactor harvest clarifications, downstream processing/purification, and product quality assessment with analytical tools.
  • Assist with the execution of process optimization and characterization studies at Ambr15 and Ambr250 scale when needed.
  • Partner with scientists in organizing and documenting experiments and data in an electronic lab notebook.
  • Collaborate with the software team to develop integrated data platforms and analysis for streamlined data analysis.
  • Flex-in to support the team in the lab on weekends. Expectation for at least once a month, based on business needs.
  • This role will begin as a full-time, 6 month contract. Dependent on business needs, there is potential for the contract to be extended or converted into a permanent position.

About You:

  • You have a High School Diploma or an Associate’s degree with an interest in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required.
  • You are a creative problem solver and get excited about the opportunity to drive the creation of industry-disruptive technology.
  • Being detail-oriented is not just a sound bite for you, it is part of your DNA. Keeping track of a bunch of moving parts is easy for you because you are highly organized. It is not your first time following a standardized workflow or pipeline.
  • You are fluent in use of spreadsheets such as Google Sheets or Excel and ideally Spotfire.

We're fueled by a vision to transform biological engineering into a fully-fledged engineering discipline. Should you join our team, you will grow with a constantly evolving organization and push the frontiers of synthetic biology. Company culture is key to Asimov, and ours is a culture of recombination; we believe that our mission can only be achieved by bringing together a diverse team with a mixture of backgrounds and perspectives.
