ASMPT AEi Inc. is the leading supplier of high-precision, multi-axis active alignment equipment used in the production of camera modules, LiDAR and other optical systems used in mission-critical automotive safety and self-driving car applications.
Optical System Engineers participate in or lead the design and development of innovative optical systems used in vision-guided automated assembly and test equipment. Qualified candidates must be curious, versatile, detail oriented and have great communication skills.
Major Responsibilities:
- Product development:
- Collect, develop and document optical system specifications based on technical, customer and market needs.
- Develop creative and effective optical module or product concepts based on market research, customer needs, and business objective.
- Use engineering principles to design and prototype new optical modules or products, considering factors such as functionality, manufacturability, and serviceability.
- Build simulation models to verify and refine the design concept.
- Prototyping and Testing:
- Create prototypes and conduct rigorous testing to evaluate design concepts.
- Analyze test data to identify potential flaws and refine product performance.
- Collaborative Development
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, marketing, and manufacturing, to ensure a smooth and integrated product development process.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Support and analyze the existing active alignment algorithms for camera and LiDAR modules, and the existing camera intrinsic parameter measurement algorithms.
- Recommend algorithm improvements to optimize the alignment and measurement efficiency and accuracy.
- Work with Software team for new algorithm testing and implementation.
- Technical Documentation:
- Create detailed engineering documentation, including specifications and design rationale to facility developing, manufacturing, quality control, and future improvements.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in physics or optical engineering, should also have experience in at least one of the following disciplines: mechanical engineering, computer science, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience in optical system modeling and design (in Zemax OpticStudio) from concept to prototype or product. Relevant design areas include imaging systems (image generation and image capture), with exposure to non-imaging systems (e.g., illumination).
- Have strong modeling skills. Proficiency in modelling tools. MATLAB is desired.
- Have strong C# coding skill.
- Excellent math, creativity combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to details.
- Experience with prototyping techniques, testing methodologies, and failure analysis.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal for effective cross-functional collaboration and communication with customers.
- The applicant must be accustomed to project coordination, multi-thread tasks and proposal development duties, as well as hands-on engineering work.
Preferred Qualifications Beneficial additional qualifications include:
- 3 years of working experience. Experience in automotive camera design and testing is a plus.
- Experience in camera intrinsic parameter measurement is a plus.
- Experience in image modulation transfer function (MTF) analysis is a plus.
- Experience in optic-mechanical-electrical system design is a plus.
