Position Summary :
Under the direction of the Community Day Services Director of Operations, the Ada Farm Coordinator leads daily operations at the Ada Farm, a 1⁄4-acre fruit and vegetable farm located at 1863 South Wabash Avenue. The Ada Farm workforce development program supports employment opportunities for people with disabilities and the community. Key responsibilities include helping people with disabilities develop workforce skills related to farm responsibilities, facilitating social engagement, and establishing relationships to sell goods in the community. Daily farm operations include bed preparation, planting, watering, plant care, integrated pest management, harvesting, buildout projects, and more. The Ada Farm Coordinator also serves as the lead facilitator of the farm. This includes supporting their educational curriculum, harvesting and distributing fresh fruits and vegetables, and expanding and supporting the farm program. The Ada Farm Coordinator will pursue community volunteers and educational programs to enhance the farm and educate the farm trainers alongside community partners to collaborate on special projects and additional farm growth across multiple site
Reporting Relationship :
Reports to : Community Day Services Director of Operations
Supervises : The Ada Farm Coordinator works closely with Direct Support Professional’s (DSPs) to ensure daily farm operations are implemented.
Principle Duties / Responsibilities :
- Creates and implements the annual crop plan, production schedule, food safety plan, weekly farm plan, and daily task / harvest lists.
- Lead a workforce program for people with intellectual disabilities. Need something about working in collaboration with the SEP department to place people in jobs.
- Leads weekly harvests and food distribution for all market channels, such as farmer’s markets, restaurants, grocery stores, etc.
- Leads all staff, interns, volunteers, and community partners in completing daily farm tasks in a timely and effective manner.
- Serves as the lead facilitator of all educational programming on the farm.
- Actively builds relationships with new and existing partner organizations, vendors, and residents in the community.
- Leads all farm buildout projects.
- Utilizes paper and digital logs to complete daily reporting of farm tasks, harvest totals, expenses, etc.
- Participates in weekly team meetings.
- Employment hours are Monday-Friday 8am-4pm; required to work evenings and weekends to accommodate events and opportunities to sell product.
- All other duties as assigned.
Equipment :
The position requires proficiency in the use and maintenance of classroom materials, a laptop, and a variety of gardening equipment associated with the Ada Farm. This includes, but is not limited to, hoes, rakes, scales, gloves, water hoses, hand gardening tools, buckets, wheelbarrows, lawn bags, and watering cans. Applicants should be familiar with safe handling and operational practices for each item to ensure effective and efficient garden management and educational support.
