The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) provides life-saving care and relief for animal victims of cruelty and neglect through internal and external partners. We also offer subsidized care for financially challenged pet owners.
The ASPCA Animal Hospital (AAH) Licensed Veterinary Technicians are passionate nurses committed to providing high-quality veterinary care in a fast-paced environment. They collaborate with the veterinary medical team to deliver skilled, efficient, and compassionate treatment to outpatients and hospitalized patients within hospital medical parameters. AAH nurses also provide support and coverage for the Animal Recovery Center (ARC) as needed.

Responsibilities :
1. Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of veterinary medical concepts.
2. Provide compassionate and quality patient care utilizing Fear Free Guidelines.
3. Proficient in various technical nursing skills, including venipuncture, catheter placement, intubation, anesthesia monitoring, diagnostic imaging, critical care, pharmacology, and dentistry.
4. Possess critical thinking and multi-tasking skills.
5. Able to prioritize and re-prioritize based on hospital and patient needs.
6. Proficient in animal handling and restraint for various medical procedures.
7. Treat animals and clients with care and respect.
8. Competently explain client information documented by the doctor.
9. Document and communicate patient concerns or observed changes to Veterinarian.
10. Feed and medicate patients following veterinarian and LVT instructions.
11. Lift patients up to 40 pounds.
12. Provide a safe and compassionate environment for animals in our care, staff, and clients by using low-stress handling techniques.
Professionalism, Communication, and Performance :
1. Represent ASPCA in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
2. Provide management with regular feedback about training needs, new hires, coworkers, interns, hospital needs, etc.
3. Collaborate professionally with other ASPCA department managers and staff.
4. Support organization and departmental policies and protocols.
5. Maintain open mind regarding changes and be willing to learn, implement, and teach new protocols.
6. Possess thorough knowledge of AAH daily procedures and protocols.
7. Ensure and maintain high-quality standard of care, work ethic, and performance.
8. Work independently without supervision and as part of a team.
9. Work efficiently and calmly under challenging conditions.
10. Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
11. Advise Supervisor of any conditions that are unsafe including unrecognized hazards or infractions of safety rules.
Housekeeping and Maintenance :
1. Clean and disinfect kennels, equipment, and facility while utilizing appropriate PPE.
2. Follow all departmental PPE and cleaning protocols.
3. Take inventory and stock supplies as needed.
4. Assist in keeping supplies stocked by noting when supplies are running low in all departments.
5. Make certain entire hospital including treatment, surgery, exam rooms, and kennels are kept extremely clean throughout the day.
