Job Description
This role will have the opportunity to contribute to the development, portfolio management, client management, and strategic business planning/underwriting for the US Property Treaty portfolio segment. The Role
Get ready to dive into the thrilling world of underwriting with the ARA Property Treaty! You'll be at the forefront of evaluating complex risks and exposures, pricing structures, rates, terms, and conditions, all while adhering to corporate guidelines and authority levels. But that's not all! You'll also be a key player in fostering strong internal relationships within our team and building lasting connections with Aspen Re’s clients and brokers. Plus, you'll leverage your growing knowledge of global reinsurance markets to help shape the strategic direction of our reinsurance business. Key Accountabilities
- Contributes to ARA Property Treaty strategy development
- Provides support to other team members to achieve positive results for the business within plan and product strategy
- Manage processes and workflow to ensure accuracy, efficiency, good practice and adherence to prescribed standards
- As a technical expert: responsibility for executing high value/complex transactions (making collaborative decisions within authority limits) and to ensure that they are completed and recorded properly and maintained in systems
- Responsibility for ensuring that compliance and risk management are optimized
- Accuracy and timeliness of analysis, internal reporting, and record keeping
- Achievement of specified goals in line with Business Plan objectives
- Apply technical expertise to effectively underwrite complex risks and negotiate advantageous pricing and terms and conditions with reinsurance brokers
- Strong analytical focus and ability to work with Aspen Re pricing models and catastrophe model output
- Strong understanding of underlying insurance coverage and insurance underwriting
- Manage and understand catastrophe modelling and how business written impacts Aspen Re’s portfolio
- Ability to audit client files and provide relevant technical feedback to customers
- Demonstrated willingness to challenge information provided and ask questions to probe deeply during the underwriting process
- Peer reviews conducted and challenged appropriately
- Strong credibility with internal and external stakeholders

Skills & Experience
- At least 5-7 years knowledge of property insurance and reinsurance underwriting (Property Treaty is highly preferred.)
- Expertise with insurance policy and reinsurance contract coverages and terms
- Understanding of insurance company financials and ability to identify profitable treaty opportunities
- Existing expertise in risk profiling, pricing tools and catastrophe models; and knows when and how to apply these to their role
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills, strong negotiating skills, orientation skills and time management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in team environment
- Curiosity to learn more about underwriting, customers’ businesses, and the insurance and reinsurance industry
- Ability to engage positively and calmly to influence colleagues, brokers, and customers
- Proficient in relevant software applications required in the underwriting process
- Experience in the use of risk profiling and pricing tools and loss models
- Has established customer/broker relationships
- Degree level education is preferred
- Professional designations are a plus: CPCU, ARe, etc.
