Position: Junior Counselor
Location: Aspen Elementary
Dates: June 23 - July 18, 2025
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (One preparation day prior to the program start date)
Compensation: $25/hour
Position Type: Full-time and Part-time Available
Position Summary:
Aspen Elementary School is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Junior Counselors to join our Summer Explorers program. Junior Counselors will work alongside the Summer Explorers teachers to support elementary-aged students (grades K-5) in a fun, engaging, and educational summer camp environment. This position involves assisting with structured literacy and inquiry-based math lessons, leading outdoor activities, and providing overall supervision and support for students. Junior Counselors play an integral role in fostering a positive, active, and inclusive environment for all participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support: Assist with student engagement during structured literacy and math lessons. Provide individualized support to students to ensure they are meeting learning objectives.
- Outdoor Activities: Lead and participate in outdoor exploration activities, nature walks, and team-building exercises. Ensure student safety during all outdoor trips and activities.
- Classroom Assistance: Support teachers in managing the classroom by helping with lesson preparations, supervising students, and guiding activities.
- Student Supervision: Ensure a safe and welcoming environment by actively supervising students during all program activities, including breaks, lunch, and outdoor playtime.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers and staff to ensure smooth program operations and a positive experience for students.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Assist with various program logistics, including setting up materials for activities, helping with student transportation, and supporting any additional program needs.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Enthusiasm for working with elementary-aged children in a summer learning and recreational setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to connect with students and staff
- Ability to work well as part of a team and follow instructions from teachers and program coordinators
- Willingness to be active and engaged in both classroom and outdoor environments
- Responsible, dependable, and eager to contribute to a positive summer experience for all participants
Preferred:
- Experience working with children, either through volunteer work, tutoring, camp counseling, or similar settings
- Interest in outdoor education, environmental science, or other educational programs
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Working Conditions:
- Junior Counselors will work both indoors and outdoors, assisting with activities in various weather conditions, so comfort with being outside for extended periods is important.
- Full-time (40 hours/week) and part-time positions are available.
- Junior Counselors will have the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and teaching skills in a supportive and dynamic learning environment.
