Position Title:
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

Department: Aspen School District

Reports to: Director of Student Services

Classification: Certified Full-time Exempt - SSP

Contract Period: 9 Month (185 days with some variance depending on the year)

Compensation: See Salary Schedule Here: SSP Salary Schedule, Additional $5000 annually with National Board Certification

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, the Board Certified Behavior Analyst works with district leadership and school teams to assess students for and implement Applied Behavior Analysis practices and services. Provides guidance and support to teams on how to evaluate and implement Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) practices with specific students, including researching, designing, and implementing strategies to support the achievement of students with disabilities who exhibit challenging behaviors.


Position Responsibilities

  • Responsible for district Functional Behavior Assessments
  • Responsible for district Behavior Intervention Plans
  • Provides direct service support for students with significant behavior challenges
  • Will work to support and implement behavior based curriculum districtwide
  • As a member of the Behavior Team, enhances the school teams’ ability to effectively and efficiently manage student behaviors within their schools by supporting the gathering and reviewing of data, related counsel and advice/coaching that will allow teams to more effectively manage student behaviors within their schools using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Provides behavior analysis services and assists school teams in the development of behavior intervention plans for special education students with social/emotional needs
  • Maintains a caseload of buildings/programs and students for which the Specialist provides consultation, coaching and services which may include direct and indirect services to students who require ABA as part of their IEP or 504 as determined by the special education or 504 team evaluation process
  • Develops and provides professional development/training to central office and school staff
  • Supports development of district guidance and processes for Functional Behavior Assessment and Behavior Intervention Plans
  • May supervise Registered Behavior Technicians
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of:
    • Applicable laws and regulations, especially IDEA, Section 504 and Colorado House Bill 22-1260 (Access To Medically Necessary Services For Students) is required
    • Excellent interpersonal, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills required
    • Application and knowledge of data driven interventions focused on improving student behavioral outcomes
    • Ability to collect, monitor and interpret data
    • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams
    • Strong written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Workspace
    • Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel
    • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information

Minimum Qualifications

  • Hold a Master's Degree in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, School Social Work, School Psychology, School Counseling or other related field
  • Must hold and maintain a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Special Education Teaching License OR a Special Service Provider license (DPS will hire on an application receipt for 90 days.)
  • Current CPR/First Aid certificate or obtain one within 3 months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising Registered Behavior Technicians is highly preferred
  • Spanish bilingual

  • Exposure to noise and bodily fluids

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Physical: Reaching, walking, standing, sitting, typing, talking, crouching, kneeling, seeing, and hearing. Lifting up to 25 pounds.
