About Us:
Established in 1965 as the Aspetuck Valley Health District, servicing the towns of Westport and Weston. In 1983 the name changed to Westport Weston Health District, and in 2022, we evolved into Aspetuck Health District, proudly representing and serving three communities: Easton, Weston, and Westport.
The Aspetuck Health District is dedicated to safeguarding and enhancing the health and well-being of the communities of Easton, Weston, and Westport. We are seeking a visionary Health Director to lead our vibrant team in addressing public health challenges and promoting healthy living across our district.
Position Overview:
The Director of Health plays a key role in safeguarding and promoting community health and enforcing compliance with the Public Health Code and all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. This leadership position involves strategic planning, assisting with policy development, and implementing public health initiatives tailored to the needs of our communities. The Director of Health reports to and works closely with the Board of Directors for administrative guidance and direction.
What the Director of Health does:
· Oversee Impactful Programs and evaluate public health programs for compliance and effectiveness.
· Engage and Empower the Community by leading educational campaigns and public forums to promote health
awareness.
· Shape Policy for a Healthier Community that confronts emerging health issues and drives continuous
improvement.
· Prepare for Emergencies by developing robust emergency preparedness plans for public health crises.
· Optimize Resources and Funding and seek opportunities to support initiatives.
· Utilize Data for Better Health Outcomes to drive informed decisions.
· Inspire and develop a team of public health professionals.
Minimum Requirements:
· A master’s degree in public health from an accredited college or university or an M.D. with a master’s degree
in public health with training and experience.
· Four (4) years of professional experience in environmental or public health administration.
· Two (2) years of senior level/supervisory or management experience.
· Eligibility for appointment approval by the Commissioner of Public Health.
· Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and mentoring skills.
· Understanding of public health principles, epidemiology, health promotion, and legislation.
· Fiscal management skills, including budgeting, oversight of financial reporting, and establishing cost
containment strategies and measures.
· Proficiency in data analysis, research methods, and evaluation techniques.
· Motor Vehicle Operator’s License that is valid in Connecticut.
Work Environment:
· Professional, team-oriented, with opportunities for autonomous work.
· Office and field work with exposure to various weather conditions and potential hazards.
· Flexibility to work additional hours and attend meetings outside regular work hours.
· Minimal physical effort required for office work; moderate effort required periodically in the field.
