Grading Superintendent
As the Grading Superintendent, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the grading, prep, and milling crews to ensure efficient preparation of subgrade surfaces for asphalt and concrete installation. This role requires hands-on leadership, technical expertise in grading operations, and the ability to manage multiple crews to ensure project specifications, quality standards, and production timelines are met. You will play a key role in planning and executing site preparation, working closely with project managers and other teams to optimize workflow and maintain safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Crew Supervision & Leadership: Lead and manage the grading, prep, and milling crews, providing direction, delegation, and guidance to ensure efficient project execution.
- Site Preparation: Ensure all surfaces are properly graded, prepped, and milled to meet required specifications for asphalt and concrete installation.
- Plan & Coordinate Activities: Work closely with project managers and other crews (paving, concrete, milling) to develop schedules, allocate resources, and address site challenges.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate and oversee the use of heavy machinery, including graders, bulldozers, excavators, skid steers, and milling machines.
- Quality Control: Ensure all grading and milling work meets project specifications, tolerances, and company standards for asphalt and concrete surfaces.
- Safety Compliance: Enforce a culture of safety, ensuring all team members follow OSHA regulations and company safety policies. Perform safety audits and toolbox talks as needed.
- Site Inspections: Assess subgrade conditions, moisture levels, compaction, and milling depths to ensure surfaces are properly prepared before paving or concrete placement. Communicate any concerns to the project manager.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all grading and milling equipment is properly maintained, troubleshoot minor issues, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Project Documentation: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, labor, materials used, and site conditions. Provide daily reports to the project manager.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience leading grading, prep, and/or milling crews in a heavy civil or paving environment
- Hands-on experience operating grading and milling equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Skilled in reading and interpreting site plans
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to make real-time decisions on-site
- Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices
- Ability to work outdoors and perform physically demanding tasks
