Job Title: Addictive Disease Support Specialist

Reports To: Program Manager

Job Summary:
The Addictive Disease Support Specialist provides direct support and facilitates group sessions for individuals with addictive diseases in outpatient, intensive outpatient, and temporary observation settings, including court mandated programming. This position plays a critical role in promoting recovery and wellness by utilizing personal experience, knowledge of addiction, and evidence-based practices to empower individuals on their journey toward long-term recovery.

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Experience serving individuals with substance use disorders or addictive diseases in a professional or volunteer capacity.
    • Strong understanding of recovery principles, relapse prevention, and support services.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and facilitation skills.
    • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferred:
    • Lived experience in long-term recovery (minimum of two years of sobriety.
    • Certification (or eligibility for certification) as a Peer Support Specialist, Certified Addiction Counselor, Forensic Peer Mentor or equivalent.
    • Familiarity with recovery models.
  • Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Support:
    • Provide one-on-one support and guidance to individuals managing substance use disorders, tailoring services to meet each person's unique recovery needs.
    • Assist clients in identifying personal strengths, setting recovery goals, and developing actionable plans to achieve long-term recovery.
    • Offer empathetic, non-judgmental support grounded in recovery-oriented principles.
  • Group Facilitation:
    • Plan and facilitate educational and groups for outpatient, intensive outpatient, and temporary observation clients.
    • Promote open dialogue and a safe environment for sharing experiences, challenges, and successes in recovery.
    • Use evidence-based techniques such as motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral strategies to support group members.
  • Education and Advocacy:
    • Educate clients on the disease model of addiction, relapse prevention strategies, and available recovery resources.
    • Advocate for client needs and serve as a liaison to community-based services, housing, and employment programs.
  • Collaboration and Coordination:
    • Work closely with clinical teams to ensure comprehensive, coordinated care for individuals.
    • Participate in case reviews and contribute to individualized treatment planning.
    • Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions, progress, and service delivery.
  • Crisis Support:
    • Provide crisis intervention and emotional support to individuals in temporary observation when needed.
