Aspire Communications is looking for an OSP Skilled Laborer to join our rapidly growing company. The OSP Skilled Laborer plays a critical role in large-scale construction projects, particularly focusing on the manual labor required for conduit placement and fiber installation. This position involves collaborating with the OSP team to meticulously plan and implement conduit strategies, perform precise trenching and excavation, and ensure all tasks meet industry standards and safety protocols.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Material and Equipment Handling: Load, unload, and identify materials, machinery, and tools. Distribute these to appropriate locations based on project plans.
- Excavation and Trenching: Execute trenching and excavation duties with precision, adhering to strict depth and alignment specifications. Use tools like picks, shovels, and pneumatic tampers effectively.
- Conduit Installation: Perform conduit path placement with a strong emphasis on manual labor. Utilize specialized tools and equipment to install conduits, demonstrating expertise in various installation techniques. Accurately feed, pull, and secure cables within installed conduits.
- Structural Support: Erect or dismantle shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, and other temporary structures.
- Concrete Work: Pour concrete and use related tools such as saws, hammers, nails, and bolts.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain thorough documentation of conduit placement activities. Identify and report any deviations or challenges encountered during installation.
- Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure strict adherence to industry standards and safety protocols throughout every phase of the project. Contribute to a clean, organized, and hazard-free work environment.
- Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the OSP team and communicate progress, challenges, and successes with supervisors and team members.
- Flexibility: Accept periodic assignments involving travel away from the immediate district office area based on client needs, business requirements, and project scope. Provide support during and outside regular business hours as needed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge: Understanding of materials, methods, and tools related to construction, particularly for underground utilities and conduit systems.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year in the construction industry, with experience in operating construction equipment and conduit installation. Pipe laying and underground utility experience are preferred.
- Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is preferred.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license required; Class A driver’s license preferred.
- Availability: Ability to work after hours, weekends, and evenings when needed. Willingness to relocate or travel regionally for project locations.
Physical Requirements
- Environment: Ability to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather. Must be able to stand, drive, and perform physical activities for extended periods.
- Strength and Coordination: Physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina are necessary for tasks such as climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), balancing, walking, and handling materials.
- Protective Gear: Must be able to wear and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Exposure: Ability to work in noisy or dusty conditions, and handle chemicals, solvents, and other mechanical or electrical hazards.
