Job Summary

The Campus Safety Manager supervises a team of Campus Monitors. The position is approximately 70% overseeing school site safety for students, staff, and community members on campus. 20% consists of student Social Emotional Learning through relationship building, conflict resolution strategies and staff development focused on best practices for student and staff interactions. 10% consists of Campus Monitor monitor duties and responsibilities. The Campus Safety Manager is also responsible for strong models of relationship development, conflict resolution skills through managing student behavior that allows our students to thrive in their learning environments. Other duties include monitoring and supporting students during lunch and passing breaks to ensure a safe, secure and comfortable environment conducive to student interaction and learning.

Essential Functions

  • Implement, model and enforce policies and practices as they relate to student discipline and Aspire cultural norms
  • Participate when required in parent conferences involving matters related to discipline
  • Respond to and participates in complaints or investigations of student misbehavior; work with school site staff such as principals, psychologists and counselors in determining appropriate recommendations for resolutions
  • Provide supervision of students during school sponsored activities
  • Assign work of, supervise, train and evaluate direct reports (PLPs) as well as approve timesheets
  • Participate and train all site staff on Safety drills, emergency plans, and policy development related to safety
  • Manage emergency issues in alignment with Aspire practices while ensuring the learning environment is positive and productive
  • Often involved with de-escalating students who have experienced trauma and mediating conflicts between students
  • Support Campus Monitor supervision management including delivering high-quality professional development aligned with best conflict resolution practices; ensure through coaching and observation that supervision is operating in a professional manner and in compliance with applicable regulations
  • Effectively build and maintain relationships with parents, community stakeholders and students to establish mutual trust, respect and cooperation that facilitates safe learning environments
  • Work with other school staff to ensure sufficient level of supervision coverage in all areas of the lunch room, school yards, and/or parking lot
  • Administer first aid as needed
  • Identify any major security or safety hazards and major repair needs in the recess area and ensures safety rules are followed

  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Qualifications

  • Competencies:
  • Excellent organization, time management and follow-up skills; high sense of urgency; demonstrated ability to successfully handle multiple projects concurrently; ability to work as a team and in stressful environments
  • Knowledge of how to interact, develop interpersonal relationships and work collaboratively with persons from varying backgrounds and experiences
  • Knowledge of best practices in conflict-resolution
  • Strong team-building and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively and interact effectively with different audiences
  • Bilingual - Spanish & English preferred
  • Computer and Internet search skills
  • California Driver’s License or California Identification Card
  • Minimum educational level:
  • High School Diploma or GED and some college experience
  • Preferred – AA or Bachelor degree
  • Preferred - First Aid and CPR training
  • Experience required:
  • 3-5 years working with school-aged children
  • 3-5 years in a supervisory role relevant to position
  • Physical requirements:
  • Verbally communicate, including the ability to speak and hear at normal room levels and on the telephone
  • Occasionally lift and/or move a minimum of 30 pounds. While performing the duties of

this job, frequently required to sit, stand, move, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk

and hear

  • Work authorization requirements:
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (most update every four years)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics are representative of those in a normal office, classroom/school setting which one might encounter while performing the essential functions of this job.
