ASRC Federal Advanced Research (AFAR) is currently seeking a Electrical Engineer to support the US ARMY Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) in Warren, Michigan. Considering the state of the world today, military technical innovation is critical to defending our territories and those of our allies. The US Army is currently exploring the insertion of leading-edge technology into their legacy fleet of vehicles to improve the situational awareness, agility, autonomy, and lethality of US Military ground-based combat operations. This effort presents a unique opportunity for civilian engineers to participate in the research and development efforts that will shape future battlefield combat platforms.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of complex engineering tasks of an analysis, design, or test nature in one or more of the company’s product/service areas requiring strong technical skills in one or more software and/or hardware engineering disciplines.
- Evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
- Design and develop electrical equipment solutions, including electric motors, machinery controls, lighting, and MIL-spec wiring in military vehicles, vehicle subsystems, communications systems; and power generation, control, and transmission.
- Develop Electrical Schematics, “One-Wire” interconnect diagrams (power, signal, and data), system integration drawings, system requirements, Bills of Material, and the necessary notes and information to support Developmental & Product Technical Data Packages (per MIL-STD-31000)
- Participate on project teams and provides guidance to less advanced engineers. Engineering activities support both domestic and international products/services.
- Responsible for the development of scope of effort estimates (Rough Order of Magnitude and Quotes) and engineering estimates for; manpower, materiel, schedule requirements, and potential risks, etc. to successfully meet customer requests for electrical systems integration support.
- Supervises the manufacturing, assembly, and installation of electrical vehicle systems and corrects flaws or malfunctions.
- Responsible for; electrical and electronic design, system and component integration, system and component development and production of electrical systems and equipment by developing, troubleshooting and testing components.
- Confirm system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods, testing properties, and isolating defects.
- Develop manufacturing processes for MIL-spec cables and harnesses by designing and modifying military vehicular wiring systems. Resulting designs are to be documented in AutoCAD, Visio, or Creo in preparation for mass production.
- Prepare product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends to support the development of Analysis of Alternatives (AoAs), Courses of Action (COAs), and Trade Studies.
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Build, test, and modify product/vehicle systems and subsystem prototypes.
- Completes projects by training and guiding technicians.
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred familiarity with MIL-spec cable design, including a working knowledge of IPC-620 (cable assembly standard) and J-STD-001 (soldering assembly standard)
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree (in Computer Science, Math, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology or related field) or equivalent, and five years of related experience.
Clearance
- Ability to obtain and maintain T1/Confidential security clearance
