ASRC Federal Advanced Research is seeking a full-time Heavy Equipment Mechanic in Sterling Heights, MI. Military technical innovation is critical to defending our territories and those of our allies.  The US Army is currently exploring the insertion of leading-edge technology into their legacy fleet of vehicles to improve the situational awareness, agility, autonomy, and lethality of US Military ground-based combat operations.  By converting material, fuel and equipment transport trucks into robots, Army leadership expects to reduce the need for soldiers to be put in harm's way. Our work as a Defense Contractor is dedicated to advancing technology in ground vehicle systems and promoting the future survivability for our troops. Among the duties for Heavy Equipment Mechanic listed below we are looking for a mechanic that can also drive heavy equipment and ground military vehicles. ASRC is looking for candidates with experience and knowledge test driving and maintaining advanced autonomous transport vehicles as well as wheeled and tracked ground vehicles. This candidate would also need to have the ability to evaluate and report performance after driving said vehicles and noting any problems, successes, or ideas for improvement. While testing vehicles, safety driving or performing maintenance on vehicles, we also require this candidate to have excellent communication skills and customer service as they may encounter leadership personnel or customers. As a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, the candidate should be able to perform the following: Provide technical services in the areas of heavy equipment repair and support in the assembly, fabrication, repair, assisting the Government engineers and technicians in the design and development of military, commercial, construction vehicles and vehicle prototype platforms. Document the repairs or installations of new systems and any implications of the vehicle’s performance. The contractor shall identify any known changes to the vehicle’s performance because of a repair or installation of a new system to the vehicle. Provide technical services for system integration functions that will require knowledge in hydraulics, pneumatics, electronics, mechanics, fabrication, assembly, physical prototyping, analysis and troubleshooting and integration of new systems. Possess the ability to tear down, build up vehicles and heavy equipment. Possess experience in the major areas of heavy-duty vehicle systems and repairs consisting of diesel and gasoline engines, automatic transmissions, drive systems, steering, suspension, brakes, electronics and heating and air conditioning systems. Repair components by replacing worn or damaged parts with new or reconditioned parts. Diagnose/troubleshoot electrical issues within a vehicle. Perform preventive and special maintenance. Preferred Military experience is a plus, not required. Experience with TIG/MIG welding and fabrication   Requirement/Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Capable of standing all day and lifting 45 lbs. Follow all safety, regulatory and environmental/hazardous standards IAW ISO 14001. Ability to obtain a Confidential security clearance. Basic/Intermediate computer skills (fill in electronic timesheet, expense reports and use electronic vehicle manuals) Microsoft office knowledge. Possess or willing and able to obtain a Commercial Driver License (CDL-B). Ability to travel 25%
