Job Summary
The Laborer performs tasks that mainly require physical abilities and effort involving little or no specialized skill or prior work experience. The incumbent cleans and keeps conditions in work areas, washrooms, offices, or other common areas orderly. The Laborer performs duties with minimal direct supervision.
Essential Duties & Job Functions
Loads and unloads trucks and other conveyances.
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, or polishes floors.
Cleans lavatories, showers, and restrooms,
Moves supplies and materials to the proper location by wheelbarrows and hand trucks.
Stacks materials for storage or binning.
Collects refuse and salvageable materials.
Digs fills and tamps earth excavations.
Levels ground using pick, shovel, tamper, and rake.
Shovels concrete and snow as needed.
Cleans culverts and ditches.
Cut trees and brush.
Operates power lawnmowers.
Moves and arranges heavy pieces of office and household furniture, equipment, and appliances.
Moves heavy pieces of automotive, medical engineering, and other machinery and equipment.
Spreads sand and salt on icy roads and walkways.
Picks up leaves and trash as needed.
Removes trash and other refuse.
Dust equipment, furniture, or fixtures.
Polishes metal fixtures or trim.
Provides supplies and minor maintenance services.
Replaces fluorescent and incandescent lamps.
Performs related work as assigned.
Accountable For:
Standard safety practices and protective equipment used on a construction site.
The use of hand and power tools commonly used in the construction trade.
Understanding and following directions.
Working cooperatively and safely with others on joint projects.
Performing assigned duties with minimal supervision.
Climbing extension ladders.
Work Conditions
Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoor work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions. The employee must regularly talk and hear to understand instructions, provide information, and respond to safety warnings. Work conditions need the employee to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, taste or smell, and work on scaffolding and ladders. Incumbents lift and move objects weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance and lift and move heavier objects with assistance.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
0-2 years prior labor experience.
Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.
