Position Summary
The Operations Manager will play a vital role in the success of our Williamsport, Maryland facility. This position will plan, direct and execute the operations strategy with the Director of Operations and Production Managers.
Essential Job Functions and Accountabilities
- Ensures that safety rules and regulations are adhered throughout the facility. Promotes an employee led safety culture.
- Promotes a 5S and good housekeeping practices for the plant.
- Identifies potential cost improvement opportunities through lean improvements.
- Manage and ensure performance, efficiency and product quality standards are met for entire production operations area.
- Provide guidance to manufacturing supervisors regarding the coordination of departmental standards with overall plant objectives.
- Provide budgetary input in regard to equipment/staffing needs, etc. Monitor output, cycle times, routings and quality indicators.
- Resolve issues that arise and reinforce positive findings with teams and supervisors. Work with other department managers to resolve difficult or recurring productivity problems.
- Assess quality of product during various stages of production.
- Communicate issues to appropriate staff to make adjustments or corrections. Take corrective action on issues and engage appropriate departments to resolve issues.
- Maintain a high degree of leadership and supervisory skills including: Developing and training teammates so they are prepared to assume positions of increasing responsibilities.
- Direct the workflow on a five day per week, 24-hour per day basis, through all production departments assuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness in products.
- Develops, oversees, and manages department budgets and assures actual production is managed within same. Maintains real-time knowledge on status of jobs, understand causes of production bottlenecks and can act decisively to overcome them.
- Develop and implement improvement in production processes and production reporting of waste, productivity and other production statistics
- Ensure supervisors and employees are trained and evaluated on safety procedures and policies.
- Emphasize importance of maintaining and operating equipment and keeping work areas clean from debris.
- Respond to and report on injuries, investigate cause and recommend means to prevent re-occurrence.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Minimum of 8 years manufacturing experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality, production, engineering, or plant management
- Communication skills - above average presentation, written and verbal communication skills. Needs to be able to communicate with all levels and functions of the organization.
- Root Cause and Corrective action problem solving skill. Lean /Six Sigma implementation experience a plus.
- Demonstrate strong management and leadership skills as a member of the Operations Management staff.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- A high degree of initiative and motivation in order to achieve expected results
- Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be able to interface within cross-functional teams
- Excellent problem solving, observational, writing and communication skills
Educational & Certification
- Bachelors degree from an accredited institution
- Lean/Six Sigma Certification from an accredited source is preferred
