Assabet Valley Regional Vocational School DistrictACADEMIC TEACHER REPORTS TO: Director of Academics & Title I ServicesREQUIRED CREDENTIALS: MA DESE LicensureCurriculum, Planning, and Assessment Teaches full-time to students in grades 9-12. Promotes the learning and growth of all students by providing high-quality and coherentinstruction; designs and administers authentic and meaningful student assessments. Delivers instruction to students in accordance with the Curriculum Frameworks issued by theMassachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Design learning activities that will relate skills to the real world and applythem to academic & vocational programs where appropriate.
Develops lesson plans; maintains a weekly syllabus and a daily agenda. Maintains an online course learning management platform (ie. Google Classroom) thatstudents can access both in school and outside school as necessary Takes part in curriculum development and revision. Analyzes student performance and growth data, using this data to improve instruction,providing students with constructive feedback on an ongoing basis, and continuously refininglearning objectives.
Use a variety of both formative and summative assessment strategies to allow students toshow their understandingTeaching All Students Promotes the learning and growth of all students through instructional practices that establishhigh expectations, create a safe and effective classroom environment, and demonstratecultural proficiency. Provides individual and group instruction appropriate to the needs of the student(s) anddifferentiates instruction when necessary. Accommodates the special needs of individual students. Establishes and maintains standards of student conduct to provide an orderly, safe, andproductive environment for all students in the classroom.
Grades and monitors student progress through the use of progress reports and report cards.Family and Community Engagement Promotes the learning and growth of all students through effective partnerships with families,caregivers, community members, and organizations. Contacts parents to notify them of students declining progress, whenever necessary. Attends Special Education Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, where theteachers presence is required. Provides supervision and extra help to students where needed.Professional Culture Promotes the learning and growth of all students through ethical, culturally proficient, skilled,and collaborative practice.
Attends meetings as required by contract. Carries out other duties as assigned.Classroom ManagementCommunicate clear behavioral expectations.Maintain classroom routines and procedures without significant loss of instructional time.Adhere to the Classroom Management Plan.Support and adhere to the disciplinary policies and procedures of the school.Attend to safety requirements.Take disciplinary action appropriate to the behavioral infraction.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a ten-month, Full-time (1.0 FTE), school-year position (187 days). Initial salary will be established by the Superintendent-Director in accordance with theTeachers Contract. Fringe benefits as outlined in the Teachers Contract.
A criminal background check, including fingerprinting, is required. The successful applicant must undergo mandatory ethics training and pass an online ethicstest developed by the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission.EVALUATIONS: As per the Teachers Contract.QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION Must be licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education(DESE) to teach Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and thepublic in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected. Must be able to work as part of a team and independently. Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
