What are the responsibilities and job description for the Kayak Tour Guide, ebike tour guide position at Assateague Adventures?
Looking to hire Kayak Guides and E-Bike Guides for our summer season. Now until September.
Must be comfortable leading groups of 2-8 guests on educational kayak tours (if more than 8 guests on a tour you will have a secondary guide). You will spend about 15 min setting up, 2 hours kayaking and up to 30 min putting gear away. You will work up to 5 days a week and likely twice a day (depending on weather). This is a physically demanding job. Applicants must be able to lift and move heavy kayaks (50-60lbs), swim, paddle, and work outdoors in hot and humid conditions. You will make $40 per tour and uncapped tips.
You will also have the responsibility of taking on some e-bike tours where you will guide up to 5 guests on electronic bicycles around the wildlife refuge of Assateague Island. You must be proficient in biking and leading a group of people safely through town and into the wildlife refuge. These tours will last about 2 hours and the setup and closing will last about 10-15 minutes each. You will make $40 per tour and uncapped tips.
Being a kayak and ebike guide for Chincoteague Island Tours requires a true desire to learn about kayaking, routes, wildlife, nature, and history all pertaining to information about Chincoteague and Assateague. You will have to dedicate some outside time to learn about these subjects to be prepared for tours.
Responsibilities include:
Determining your routes based on tides, wind, and weather conditions and make judgment calls for the safety of guests.
Handling emergency situations, should they arise.
Being able to professionally control groups of varying abilities and ages.
Pointing out wildlife and educating participants about the area’s wildlife, nature habits, history, and ecology.
Helping customers get fitted in kayaks and assisting them in and out of the water.
Loading and unloading kayaks, paddles, and life vests into the kayak truck.
Cleaning kayaks and gear after tour.
Preparing e-bikes and putting bikes away in the shop before and after a tour.
Pay:
$40 a tour, plus tips (This equates to over $14 an hour however the tips are where you will receive more compensation).
