What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Nursing LPN or RN position at Assisted Living / Memory Care?
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing the nursing services department in an assisted living facility. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Leadership & Management
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct the nursing personnel (Med-Tech, LPN, Caregiver) and their activities according to current rules, regulations, and guidelines governing the assisted living facility.
- Develop, maintain, and periodically update nursing protocols.
- Design and implement a nursing personnel organizational structure.
- Operational Oversight
- Make written and oral reports to the Executive Director regarding the operation of the nursing department.
- Coordinate nursing personnel with other resident services to ensure continuity in the residents' care regimen.
- Regulatory Compliance
- Participate in facility surveys by authorized government agencies to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Resident Care & Admissions
- Assist in the interviewing and selection of new residents as needed.
- Provide the Executive Director with feedback on the nursing needs of residents and the department's ability to meet those needs.
- Ensure nursing personnel are informed of new admissions, their expected arrival times, and room assignments.
- Physician Coordination
- Encourage attending physicians to record and sign progress notes, orders, etc., in a timely manner and in compliance with current regulations.
- Documentation & Care Review
- Review nurses' notes to ensure they are comprehensive, descriptive of the care provided, and reflect the resident’s response to the care, in accordance with their wishes.

Salary : $85,000 - $95,000
