Position Summary
This individual is responsible for gathering essential medical information from the patient, performing a variety of diagnostic tests and screenings, and providing the ophthalmic provider with needed information to accurately assess the patient’s ocular health. Individual is also responsible for upholding AEC’s commitment to world class patient experience and high quality at a great value.
Orthoptist Essential Functions
- Provides excellent customer service to patients and teammates
- Responds appropriately within level of certification and promptly to patients’ questions
- Efficiently and accurately works up patient for comprehensive and subspecialty optometrists and ophthalmologists including, but not limited to visual acuity, tonometry, insertion of appropriate eye drops, tech external exam, retinoscopy, and subjective refinement of refractometry, perform and document sensorimotor exams; and a variety of special testing as directed.
- Assists the pediatric provider in developing a treatment and/or surgical plan for the patient
- Accurately documents information gathered during exam in accordance with AEC’s procedures and policies
- Assists providers in meeting governmental and coding requirements
- Abides by all policies and procedures as outlined in AEC’s employee handbook
- Troubleshoots patient concerns and testing results to efficiently provide appropriate and accurate information to the providers
- Participates in regular team meetings to ensure effective team performance and advance inter-department communications; this may require afterhours work
- Responsible for ongoing professional self-development
Orthoptist Other Essential Functions
- Must be willing and able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed
- Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
- Must manage personal issues during provided break times and keeps breaks with allotted time
- Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
- Represents Associated Eye Care in a professional manner at all times
- Contributes positively to the company culture
- Performs other duties as assigned
