What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Pre/Post (VSC) (0.6 - 1.0FTE) position at Associated Eye Care, Ltd?
Position Summary
This position is responsible for the delivery of optimum quality care to patients while in the Preanesthesia and Postanesthesia phases of care while in the Surgery Center.
Expected compensation between $38.02 - $47.52/hour. Compensation will be determined based on relevant experience and skills.
Registered Nurse – Pre-Op Essential Functions
- Develops an individualized plan of care based on nursing assessment, medical diagnoses, and knowledge of specific illnesses, injuries, diseases, surgical procedures and appropriate standards of care
- Collaborates with other disciplines to maximize patient outcomes and effect a smooth flow of the surgical experience
- Plans and utilizes resources efficiently to complete the daily schedule in a timely manner while providing safe and individualized patient care
- Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of special needs for various age groups including pediatric, adult and geriatric when providing resources for the perioperative experience
- Reassesses, evaluates, and revises the implementation of the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient.
- Responds appropriately to changes in the patient’s condition and/or behavior
- Provides emotional support and comfort for patients/family members
- Completes appropriate portions of the patient record accurately and thoroughly
- Demonstrates knowledge of and appropriately carries out the RN role unique to Perianesthesia practice
- Pre-admission: focus on physical, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual preparation for the surgical /procedural experience
- Interview and assess to identify potential or actual problems
- Initiate education and discharge planning
- Day of Surgery: focus to validate existing information, provide new/additional information, reinforce preoperative teaching, review discharge instructions and complete nursing care to complete the preparation for the surgery / procedure
- Postanesthesia Phase I: Provide basic life sustaining needs
- Provide pain control
- Provide constant vigilance
- Assess and transfer to Phase II as patient meets criteria to transfer
- Postanesthesia Phase II: focus on preparation for care in the home. Assess and discharge as patient meets criteria to discharge from Surgery Center
Other Essential Functions
- Must be willing to cross train to procedural areas (i.e. Pain, Endoscopy)
- Must be willing and able to adjust schedule depending upon the needs of the company
- Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time
- Participates in department and company meetings, as requested
- Performs other duties as assigned
