What are the responsibilities and job description for the Retail Business Counselor- Maine position at Associated Grocers of New England?
SUMMARY/PURPOSE
We are currently accepting applications for a Retail Business Counselor for the assigned territory located in Maine. The suitable candidate would be responsible for identifying and contacting prospective new accounts and generating sales proposals. As well as servicing existing and new accounts, ensuring quality and consistency of products and services within assigned sales region.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provides customer support by providing training, responding to requests, and resolving issues both on-site and on the telephone.
- Sells to and maintains contact with existing accounts and promotes positive relations with AGNE. Promotes the value of company products in order to expand account(s) to meet and/or exceed goals.
- Establishes rapport and maintains contact with potential new accounts.
- Participates and assists accounts in preparation of resets and/or remodeling.
- Develops and supervises the preparation, issuance, and delivery of sales materials, exhibits, and promotion programs to new and existing accounts.
- Identify, diagnose & respond to specific account needs in order to enhance customer service & satisfaction.
- Oversee new and existing accounts through follow-up and resolving customer concerns.
- Sells merchandise and equipment; advises customers on merchandise price, features, and/or on fees and services. Assists customers in the ordering and, as appropriate delivery of merchandise.
- Interacts with management, internal departments and warehouse for information and problem resolution to ensure account/customer satisfaction.
- Participates in the development of sales goals and objectives for AGNE.
- Recommends, implements, and administers methods, policies and procedures to enhance sales.
- Keeps abreast of market and product developments.
- Initiate, complete and prepare paperwork to activate and maintain new accounts.
- Prepares a variety of status reports, including activity, closings, follow-up, and adherence to goals. Reports on special developments, competitive information, trends and/or other feedback gathered through field activity.
- Call on assigned retail stores in Maine territory.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED plus 3 to 5 years of sales/counselor experience
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
- Strong knowledge of retail supermarket or convenience store practice is required.
- Skill in the use Microsoft Office and related software applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of retail and/or wholesale sales principles, methods, and techniques.
- Ability to persuade and influence others.
- Ability to identify and/or follow up sales leads and referrals.
- Ability to gather data, compiles information, and prepares reports.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license is a requirement for the position.
- Business degree (associates or bachelors) preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Frequent travel within assigned territory is required.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work involves some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
