Position: Histology Lab Assistant
Location: Los Gatos, CA 95032

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 2 AM - 10:30 AM
Compensation starting at $25/hr with benefits
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- College Degree
- Organizational skills within a lab setting, including those associated with computer data entry and basic understanding of medical insurances
- Medical Laboratory Experience
- Knowledgeable in IntelliPath (pathology LIS)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs data entry.
- Maintains equipment: water baths, automated slide stainer, tissue processors, embedding stations and distillation unit, etc.
- Records temperatures daily, equipment maintenance logs and safety equipment logs
- Embeds tissue as a major responsibility.
- Under direct supervision, may perform microtomy on select tissue/ “As Trained”
- Under direct supervision, may prepare and perform simple special stains./ “As Trained”
- Load/Unload IHC instrtunents (Antigen Retrieval PT Link, Ultra and DAKO IHC autostainers)/ “As Trained”
- Stains slides manually and using the automated slide stainer.
- Coverslips slides either manually or with automated equipment.
- Prints labels.
- Labels, organizes and dispatches slides accordingly.
- Cleans and maintains all work areas.
- Washes dirty glassware.
- Answers the telephone and fills client stain or recut request.
- Files and pulls blocks, slides and other records.
- Handles specimen container disposal.
- Handles waste disposal accordingly
- Replenishes supplies and chemicals in the lab and for the lab equipment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Security/HIPAA Access Level 3
- Must be able to work with formalin, xylene and alcohol.
PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE REQUIREMENT:
- Ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time
- Ability to lift (up to 50 lbs), open and move objects
- Ability to type accurately a minimum of 45 wpm
- Ability to practice strict safety precautions when handling biological specimens and chemicals
- Ability to perform laboratory procedures accurately and quickly under stressful conditions and to adapt to changing situations
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, to think logically in the performance of one’s duties, and to accept constructive criticism
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and assume responsibility for one’s work
- Ability to communicate in a professional, positive, tactful manner
- Ability to maintain patient confidentially and to exercise ethical judgment, integrity, honesty, dependability, and accountability in the performance of one’s laboratory responsibilities

Pay: From $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
