What are the responsibilities and job description for the BMU Custodian position at ASSOCIATED STUDENTS OF CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY CHICO?
The Associated Students of CSU, Chico is recruiting for a Custodian in the Bell Memorial Union (BMU). This is a full-time, full-year (2080 hours), non-exempt position. The anticipated schedule is Saturday and Sunday, 2:00pm to 10:30pm and Monday through Wednesday, 5:30pm to 2:00am with 30-minute meal breaks and Thursday and Friday off. This schedule qualifies for a shift differential rate of pay of $22.58 - $22.60/hr. Should this schedule change and no longer qualifies for shift differential, the base pay range is $21.23 - $21.25/hr; placement in range is dependent upon experience with new hires typically starting at the beginning of the range.
The Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU,Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. With an annual budget of more than $21M, the AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union, the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC), and administers the contract for the Wildcat Store (bookstore). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, Recycling, Sustainability and student government. Typically, the AS employs more than 100 full and part-time employees and more than 750 students.

BMU CUSTODIAN
SUMMARY
This position is a working level position which has responsibility for performing general custodial, housekeeping, and other related projects or duties under general supervision in assigned areas of Associated Students buildings and facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Keeps assigned areas and buildings and facilities in a clean and orderly condition.
- Train, oversee and direct the work of student employees as required.
- Sweeps and mops floors.
- Cleans and vacuums rugs and carpets.
- Dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, and cabinets.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles.
- Removes recycling materials from bins as needed.
- Cleans hallways, restrooms, offices/rooms, lobbies, food service areas and auditorium.
- Restock restroom supplies.
- Cleans and dust walls, ceilings, louvers, vents, light fixtures, and windows.
- Operates cleaning equipment and machinery as needed.
- Maintains proper work safety standards.
- Enforces building security procedures.
- Assists with meeting room set-up as needed.
- Observes and reports needed repairs to buildings and equipment.
- Reports inventory shortages to supervisor.
- Other duties may be assigned.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in building, and outside environments; exposure to dust, heat, and toxic substances; contact with staff and the campus community.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination in order to properly and safely use tools and cleaning equipment; ability to communicate with others; ability to read and understand labels on caustic chemicals; ability to reach high and low; occasionally works in high, precarious places; occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes and/or airborne particles; ability lift and move objects weighing up to 50lbs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:
- Custodial methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies.
- Proper materials and procedures used for cleaning purposes.

- Clean and care for assigned buildings, areas, and equipment.
- Use a variety of cleaning equipment.
- Read and understand cleaning chemical labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
- Work on own initiative without close supervision.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Six (6) months prior experience in custodial or related work.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
Prior experience in carpet, hard floor, office/room and restroom care.
