Associated Students (AS) is a comprehensive campus auxiliary corporation of CSU, Chico serving thousands of students, faculty, staff and community members through myriad student programs, services and business enterprises. AS operates residential and retail dining services, the Bell Memorial Union (BMU), and the Wildcat Recreation Center (WREC). Additionally, the AS offers a wide variety of services and programs such as: CAVE (Community Action Volunteers in Education), the Child Development Lab, Adventure Outings, AS Presents (ASP), Sustainability and student government.
Associated Students is now hiring for the position of Graphic Design Student Assistant. This is a part-time, non-benefited student position that will work no more than 20 hours per week while school is in session. The pay rate is $17.34 per hour. The schedule for this position is based upon department needs and is subject to change at any time. SUMMARY
Under the direction of the AS Marketing and Design Department (ASMD), this position is responsible for the development of visual design promotions for the business and service programs of the Associated Students. This position includes design coordination with clients and preparation of promotional materials, advertisements, and digital signage.
This position will work 15-20 hours per week. Applicants interested in this role MUST be available for mandatory training in Chico beginning Monday, August 11. Training will be Monday-Friday August 11-22.
TYPICAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assists Graphic Design Coordinator and internal clients in designing promotional materials/advertisements for digital signage, print, web, social media, and special events. Meet with clients as needed to achieve vision.
- Corresponds and coordinates with clients and other ASMD employees on a regular basis to create compelling media for social media and other marketing campaigns and coordinate project deadlines.
- Pick up printed materials from campus print shop.
- Other duties may be assigned.

Work is performed in an office environment; continuous contact with staff, campus community and public.
TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; verbal communication, use of office equipment including computers, telephones, copiers and fax. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Knowledge of:
- Graphic design programs, such as Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator)
- Layout composition/typography
- Illustration/animation
Ability to:
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organize, prioritize and focus on details.
- Develop and coordinate design strategies for various marketing initiatives.
- Write copy to meet marketing objectives.
- Use computer and applicable software for word processing and graphic design.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with the campus community, co-workers, public, and those contacted during the course of work.
- Work independently, sometimes with minimal supervision.
- Work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
Experience:
- Majoring in Graphic Design, Communications/New Media, Video Production, Marketing or any other relevant field preferred.
- Relevant graphic design and/or creative experience preferred.
Education:
- Currently enrolled in 6 units for undergraduate or 4 units for graduate at California State University, Chico required.
- Successful completion of MADT 285: Graphic Design Portfolio Review preferred.
Special Requirements: Portfolio (in print or online). Minimum five pieces required.
