What are the responsibilities and job description for the Group Exercise Instructor position at Associated Students?
GENERAL STATEMENT
Under the supervision of the Fitness Manager, the Group Exercise Instructor will teach group fitness classes for the ASI Recreation Fitness Department. Responsibilities include providing safe, appropriate group fitness instruction for participants of all ages and fitness levels.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Safely lead group fitness classes including warm up, stretching, cardio, and cool down.
- Teach a minimum of two- 1-hour classes per week for the duration of the semester hired.
- Welcome participants to class, conduct participant counts and other administrative tasks related to the program.
- Ensure the safety of class participants through performing heart rate assessments, demonstrating safe and correct form for exercises, modifying exercise intensity levels, and appropriately warming up and cooling down.
- Perform setup/takedown for classes as needed.
- Maintain all certifications and written and oral communication with other student staff, supervisors, and administrative staff.
- Respond to injuries and assist in immediate first aid and proper emergency procedures.
- Model, promote, and consistently enforce policies for ASI Recreation.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or Experience
Currently holds minimum certification in one or more of the following entities: ACSM, NSCA, ACE, AFAA, NASM or reasonable substitute. Must be certified in First Aid, CPR and AED.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Knowledge and Abilities
A successful candidate will possess knowledge of recreation and fitness activities and the ability to connect well with students. Must be willing to work with an ethnically and culturally diverse group of student staff and volunteers. Customer skills, dependability and punctuality are a must. Must possess enhanced leadership skills and be able to work in a diverse environment.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Priority given to students currently enrolled at CSULB.
