POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mooring Mechanic is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of all mooring vehicles, boats, mooring trailers, the hydraulic lift, gangways and equipment used to perform the function of the job. The position also requires various types of welding, cutting, fabrication, minor carpentry work, and plumbing.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical components of assigned equipment, vehicles, and vessels/boats. This function further ensures the safe and effective operations of mooring vehicles, mooring boats/outboard engines, mooring boat trailers, mechanical lifts, and gangways.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair assigned equipment using repair manuals, schematics, diagrams, specs, and diagnostic procedures
- Conduct preventative or corrective services/ repairs on mooring vehicles including but not limited to oil changes, brake jobs, fuel pump module repairs, a/c service and repairs, water pump and radiator repairs, alternator/fan/belt repairs, service transmissions, valve replacement and repairs, electrical/ control module repairs, replace/ repair all front end/ suspension parts
- Conduct preventative or corrective services/ repairs on all mooring vessels/ boats including but not limited to rebuilding powerheads, rebuilding and replacing lower units, lower unit oil changes, compression checks, replace water pumps, replace fuel pumps, rework damaged props, replace trim units and motor mounts, replace starters/ starter cycloids/ capacitors, replace shift cable/ throttle controls/ steering, run/replace navigation lights
- Conduct welding operations to fabricate, maintain, and repair mooring equipment and work area. Welding responsibilities include cutting, burning, stick welding and welding aluminum.
- Clean and prepare surfaces to be maintained, repaired, or fabricated
- Responsible for minor carpentry and plumbing work on the mooring trailers. Will use hand tools and power tools as needed
- Develop, analyze and review a variety of maintenance reports to examine equipment usage, preventative maintenance, efficiency, quality, and other areas; Implements operational changes/usage as required.
- Assist in developing operating/maintenance policies, maintenance schedules, and maintenance procedures to ensure the efficient use of resources and to maintain a safe work environment
- Ensure maintenance schedules, quality initiatives, safety targets, efficiency metrics, and other operational measurements are met for the maintenance functions
- Implement and monitor projects that impact specific functions to ensure objectives and timelines are met; works with management or other personnel as required to complete tasks
- Assist with reviewing and coordinating general repairs and maintenance with mooring operations to ensure equipment, vehicles, and boats are available in alignment with business needs.
- May perform various corrective and preventive maintenance and repair work that will involve skills within several of the following areas: mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, welding, and other skilled trades depending on operational needs
- Assists mooring management in conducting failure analysis, determining root causes for incidents arising from maintenance related incidents/failures
- Within an established authorization level, the mooring mechanic will secure parts and other consumables through the company’s procurement system if necessary/requested by management
- Ensure compliance with department policies and procedures and applicable laws, rules and regulations
- Must demonstrate the ability to identify and mitigate hazards, reducing the risk of personal injury or property damage for all jobs performed
- Report ALL incidents through company’s reporting protocol/process
- Support company safety initiatives
- Demonstrates knowledge of all established position competencies
- Preform other duties as required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 3 years in the mooring field
- Combination of 3 years’ experience performing maintenance on vehicles and outboard engines
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High School or equivalent
- Relevant training in Mechanic field (Automotive/Outboard) is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations. Noise levels may require hearing protection. May be subjected to conditions which require the use of dusts mask or respirators. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools. Rotational shift work required. Twelve or more hours per day spent in work environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however the job will require the incumbent to be able to perform: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: Hard Hat, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, face shields, masks/ respirators (when necessary), hearing protection, and steel-toe boots.
