What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator - Port Allen, LA position at Associated Terminals, LLC?
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responsible for the safe operation of assigned equipment (Wheel loaders, Bobcats, etc.) within the warehouse/ terminal and on the docks while navigating around other equipment and personnel.
- Operate equipment to transport and store various commodities within the terminal and warehouse.
- Perform pre-job inspections and routine maintenance of all assigned equipment, including fluid checks, filter replacements, fueling, and greasing.
- Acts as signal man for other equipment operators and crane operators
- Perform general labor tasks as necessary for daily operations.
- Complete and submit daily equipment inspection reports.
- Report any maintenance issues to Terminal Manager daily as necessary.
- Report all incidents through the company's reporting protocol.
- Support company safety initiatives
- Demonstrate required competencies through training and practice.
- Perform other duties as required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
At least 1 year of heavy equipment experience in an industrial, warehousing, or maritime environment.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- High school or equivalent (preferred)
SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:
- Experience in a similar role within an industrial or warehousing environment (preferred).
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment within confined spaces.
- Thorough understanding of warehousing operations and equipment maintenance programs.
- Knowledge of personnel safety programs and procedures.
- Demonstrated safe work practices and leadership ability.
- Strong team collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to:
- Safely operate assigned equipment.
- Communicate clearly and professionally (written and verbal).
- Follow detailed directions.
- Use basic math skills.
- Demonstrate professionalism in radio communications.
- Operate computers and Microsoft Office applications effectively.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Work at varying elevations and around heavy machinery and equipment.
- Exposure to noise levels requiring hearing protection.
- Conditions may require dust masks, respirators, and other PPE (hard hats, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, steel-toe boots).
- Work environment includes light to heavy equipment, tools, and materials.
- Requires work hours that consist of 10-to-12-hour shifts with additional hours as needed.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including but not limited to:
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling.
- Reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Using repetitive motion for typing, grasping, and feeling.
- Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, safety vests, masks/respirators, and steel-toe boots.
- Regularly required to wear fall arrest systems and harnesses when working at heights.
- Must be able to talk, hear, see, and feel to perform job duties.
- The job involves Very Heavy Work, defined as:
- Exerting over 100 lbs. of force occasionally,
- 50 lbs. of force frequently, and
- 20 lbs. of force constantly to move or manipulate objects.
CERTIFICATIONS/ LISCENSURES
- TWIC: Must attain and maintain a valid TWIC card.
- Water survival, fall protection, CPR, and first-aid training (in-house)
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing and random drug screenings
