Position Description :

Position Summary

At AUI, we are recruiting an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for planning, directing, and organizing financial accounting operations, including assisting the Controller in overseeing the preparation of financial statements and reports that accurately depict the current financial position of the organization. This role also ensures the timely, accurate, and efficient analysis, communication, and reporting of financial data in accordance with GAAP, government contracts, and internal policy; provides support to the controller and, as needed, represents the controller in various internal / external meetings. This role is also responsible for assisting in the execution of annual audits; training and educating staff on accounting issues; and researching complex accounting issues. Assists in the administration of the Deltek Costpoint accounting system and works with a CPA firm to prepare the annual federal tax return.

This position is remote and based anywhere in the U.S.

What You Will be Doing :

  • Direct day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash reporting.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly,and year-end close.
  • Prepare and disseminatemonthly and annual financial and corporate statements.
  • Ensure the integrity of accounting ledgers, provide financial interpretation and analysis, and monitor costs and charges for compliance with company policies, GAAP,and government contract regulations.
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of commitments, budget-to-actual reports, general ledger analysis, and cost recovery calculations to ensure accuracy of the system.
  • Ensure annual audits are performed in accordance with government contract accounting regulations, GAAP, and / or other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Assist the Controller in the preparation and administration of all internaland external reviews and audits.
  • Provide leadership and manage accounting and support staff.
  • Assistin the development and implementation of global accounting policies and procedures to provide internal controls and enhance workflow.
  • Provide guidance and support with ERP system enhancements and implementation activities, and assist with the daily administration of the system
  • Assist the CPA firm with the preparationof the federal tax return and various state / local returns.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Work is mission driven, team oriented and typically performed in an office setting within a research or development environment.

Who You Are :

  • You have a Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Accounting or a related field. CPA a plus.
  • You have a minimum of seven years of related and progressively responsible experience to include experience in a supervisory role.
  • Additional Requirements

  • Experience working for an organization that receives federal government contracts or grants is a firm requirement.
  • Knowledge, experience, and familiarity with all federal compliance rules, regulations, and standards associated with federal contracting.
  • Detailed knowledge of personal computers and software, including spreadsheets, word processing, and ERP systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to organize and perform work independently with general instruction.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with demonstrated efficiency in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word; Adobe, SharePoint, web-based and cloud-based applications, and accounting software (e.g., Deltek) experience is preferred

    The selected candidate must successfully pass a post-offer background check and reference check. Failure to pass the screen will disqualify the candidate from employment consideration for a period of six months from the date of the results.

    Compensation

    AUI strives to attract and retain dedicated, highly qualified, competent, and motivated employees by offering competitive compensation and recognition for performance.

    The salary range for the role is 150,000 to 175,000 per year. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range may include education, experience, skills, competencies, and other qualifications of the successful candidate, as well as internal equity and labor market conditions.

AUI provides excellent paid time off (13 holidays, annual accrual of up to 24 vacation days and 15 sick days, additional time off for doctor / dentist visits, and 8 weeks of paid parental leave). Medical, dental, and vision plans are effective on the firstday of employment. AUI's retirement benefit contributes an amount equal to 10 percent of a qualified participant's base pay with no required employee contribution; we also offer an optional supplemental, tax-deferred plan for employee retirement contributions.
