Responsibilities
- Review and verify patient information and insurance coverage for accuracy.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies using appropriate coding systems including ICD-9 and ICD-10.
- Utilize medical office systems to maintain accurate billing records and track payments.
- Perform medical coding for diagnoses, procedures, and services rendered.
- Follow up on unpaid claims and resolve any discrepancies or issues related to billing.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for claims processing.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in the management of medical collections as needed.
Experience
- Previous experience in a medical billing or coding role is preferred.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of DRG (Diagnosis Related Group) coding.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare professionals.
- Knowledge of medical collections processes is a plus.
