TITLE: Director of Finance
REPORTS TO: President/CEO
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The primary responsibility of the position is to establish, implement, and coordinate all aspects of the Finance and Accounting Department. This includes maintaining functions, policies, procedures, and controls in a way that reflects and supports the mission and strategic goals of the Association and the Foundation.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK OF OTHERS:
The Director of Finance is responsible for the work of all departmental employees. The incumbent works in a strong team environment with the President/CEO, senior leadership team, Committees of the Board, and other staff as required.
BUSINESS COMMUNICATIONS:
A. Communication with the Board, finance committee, audit committee, auditors, funding sources, vendors, suppliers, and customers is regular.
B. Communication with senior management is ongoing.
C. Communication with President/CEO is ongoing.
D. Communication with the financial community is as needed.
SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
The incumbent is expected to act and function independently within the parameters defined by the President/CEO and the Board of Directors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or a directly related field is required, MBA or CPA preferred. The incumbent will have a minimum of five years experience in all facets of accounting, including experience supervising accounting personnel, expert knowledge of generally accepted (US) accounting principles (GAAP) and audit requirements and be able to demonstrate the degree of expertise and decision making required for the position. Experience in a manufacturing environment and/or a non profit service provider is highly desirable.
TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
A. A high level of personal integrity and ethics along with strong analytical skills.
B. Excellent computer skills, expert knowledge of Excel with the ability to create and support complex financial models.
C. Knowledge of federal, state and local taxes, and payroll.
D. Strong leadership, supervisory, interpersonal and mentoring skills.
E. Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to examine and re-engineer financial operations and procedures.
F. Cost Accounting/pricing experience strongly preferred.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A. As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Finance directs, plans, controls and coordinates the overall financial activities of the Association and the Foundation and directly manages Corporate Finance and Cash Management, Tax and Regulatory Compliance, Accounting & Reporting, Planning, Forecasting, Budgeting, Credit and Collections, Banking, Purchasing, Payroll, and Employee Benefits.
B. Directs the financial strategy of the organization ensuring that adequate financial resources will be available to accomplish its mission.
C. Together with the CEO, directs the planning efforts to develop the long-range plan and the annual operating plan. Has a thorough understanding of the Association and Foundation business processes and contributes financial, planning, and analytical expertise to the senior management team.
D. Prepares and monitors financial performance to budget and reports as required. Develops and implements effective fiscal/accounting policies and financial controls to ensure accuracy and timeliness of reporting.
E. Oversees preparation and filing of all required tax returns.
F. Organizes and coordinates annual external audits of the Association and Foundation financial and accounting records.
G. Acts as the primary contact with the banking and lending community.
H. Responsible for the day-to-day management and monitoring of all financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other organizational financial functions.
I. Periodically conducts surveys on competitiveness of salaries, benefits, leases, insurance policies, and related issues.
J. Supervises accounting and administrative staff.
K. Participates in developing budget proposals for submission to funding sources.
L. Serves on Association, Foundation or Community Committees as assigned.
M. Participates as a member of the senior management team on matters that impact the organization.
N. Keeps workplace organized and clean.
O. Other duties as assigned.
